Dental Implants -- Recommendations?

I need to have one implant this Autumn. I understand after the initial work you need to wait 3-6 months for final crown. What happens in the interim ??

Is some temporary fixing put over/around the implant ??

Only if you need it for cosmetic reasons. My implants were at the back of my mouth and not visible and so I needed nothing.

Yes its at the front (well next one over) so would need something there...........?? (or not smile for 6 months !!)

They will do you a temporary cheaper crown. As far as I know you have to be careful not to bite down hard on these as the force can be transmitted down to the implant, which should be avoided in the first 3-6 months.

Once the implant has "taken" and the proper crown is in place it is pretty much like having your own tooth back.

I'm having a implant done at the Bangkok hospital in pattaya. I pick the bangkok after looking at 4 or 5 other places I saw here on this site. You want a titanium implant, but you must always expect to get a bone graft also. If someone tells no bone graft needed I would run out of that office. The bone graft should also take 6 months to heal before the implant is done.

What you write here is nonsense. Bone graft is often only for old people, smokers or people with some other complication.

Personally I think you should have gone with Sri Racha. I had researched her experience before I had mine done, perhaps five years ago and she has done many more since then. In Bangkok Pattaya you will pay for every extra. Notwithstanding, as long as you get a good result and you are happy, it matters not. It's only money and it was your choice.

Further to your statement, this from Colgate;

Oral Care Specific to IMPLANTS

If you are considering implants, you must have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. If your bone is too thin or soft and unable to support an implant, you may require a bone graft. Or if there is not enough bone height in the upper jaw or the sinuses are too close to the jaw, you may require a sinus lift.

So, double check before you quote any old rubbish that you are told.

Yes, I needed a bone graft on just one of my three implants. This was because the original tooth had been loose and then missing for some time and the bone deteriorates in such cases. The extra cost was reasonable (about 8kB). The other two implants did not need any extra bone at all. She actually applied the bone at the same time as the implant was fitted (without a crown) so there was no extra delay in the total duration of the procedure.

My money is also still on Si Racha if the same lady implantologist is still there, and still doing them at 40kB.

My advice? Regardless of which place you end up at always stick with a specialist for implants and dont just use some regular dentist who also does implants. The specialist will know what to do in tricky cases, or if something unexpected happens.

Are you sure they are 40k baht ?

I thought I saw they were 80k each there ????

and is there a discount if you need more than one ?

thanks for the info

I've no idea about the current prices which is why I wrote "if". All mine were 40kB each, including the one done last year.

You should contact Gavin (their international rep) and ask him to find out for you.

No, Sorry....you can see many bone grafts done on people done on people of all ages. Before I left american talking with my dentist he told me why dentist do a bone graft at the same time they pull the tooth. Pulling the tooth itself weakens the outside wall of the bone and over time without a bone graft the bone on the outside would only be weaker over time. Dentist in america don't do the bone graft they would send you to a oral surgeon. I success rate of going a bone graft before the implant is way greater then without it. Ever in american we have dentist advertisiting impants done in one day to find out the implant not lasting a year. I did my research even before leaving america. You can youtube implants and bone grafts. So, I paid one price at bangkok hospital and no extra's added on. So,you are wrong on that.

Did you read what I actually wrote; "Bone graft is often only for old people, smokers or people with some other complication"

Inserting an implant just after pulling a tooth is often just that! There may have been an existing infection. In this case it is quite possible that the Implantologist will use bone material. But your blanket statement of the Implantologist needing bone material or a bone graft in every case is simply nonsense.

As to your no extras added on....I can guarantee you paid a lot more than 40,000 baht for your implant. So stop with your nonsense of no extras. You probably paid at least 75,000 baht. Likely more. How much did you actually pay? Then we can decide for ourselves if you paid for extras. Was it a bone graft or did they simply pack in some supplementary material? An actual bone graft at BP would likely set you back another 25k.

Try to bear in mind that the people posting here have far more experience in these matters than yourself. So whilst you may be happy with the service received, it doesn't give you licence to pronounce utter nonsense regarding bone grafts.

I would reccomend Studiosmile, Dr Ken did stage 1 completed the insertion of Straumann implant with healing cap, no bone graft required as the tooth (molar) was removed only 3 months ago, no bone loss. I have to return in about 3 months to fit the crown, cost estimated at 70,000bt, stage 1 cost 35,000bt. 40 minute procedure after Xray and planning. Stitches still to be removed this week. Highly proficient, US trained.

If it is this http://www.thaismiledental.com/

Terrible website.... I'm not sure... He does not look as doctor

Thats him , Dr. Nan , a very pleasant dentist, and he has been running his clinic for at least 7 years now. Lots of recommendations for this guy.

I agree his website is a bit out of date.
