So, what is the consensus of the forum on this?

Teach in Thailand, on a teacher's salary, and stay year-round?

Or take a nice one or two month holiday and enjoy everything LOS has to offer?

Option 3: stay in thailand for several consecutive months (minus visa runs) and still enjoy everything LoS has to offer.

I can understand if people need a break though during extended stays. Distance can make the love grow fonder.

Absolutely depends on the person.

I know a lot of people will not agree with the following but I do so here it is.

A long time ago someone, and intelligent individual with much experience who has been living here for a long time told me: Thailand is the land of lost boys. With no offense intended I agree with him to this day.

And I live here currently so I am not excluding myself.

The land of lost boys...yes I can see that.

My year there I hardly missed my car, never got bored enjoyed the simple life and changed my outlook about a few things as well.

To answer the question.....I wouldn't live there if I had to rely on a teachers income the 1 or 2 months holiday is far more sensible.
