Nobody forces you to live in Thailand. If you don't like it, you are free to move on (or move back to your home country).

Which village was that?

If that is your experience of village life you have either been very unlucky, or incredibly unlucky.

My beautiful wife is from Sisaket, and I used to love heading up there to spend time with her family. Since I have written her into my will as my sole beneficiary, I refuse to go up there anymore, and will only meet the in-laws in places like Starbucks and McDonalds in populated cities such as Chiang Mai, Pattaya, and Bangkok. Funny what a little piece of paper can do.

It can be dangerous wherever you choose to go .

But I think it is easier to get robbed or even murdered in a village , everyone knows who the farang is and where he lives.

Thanks to all who have posted. Mixed bag of replies but it's good to see everyone's views. I am looking forward to relaxing retirement in the village and hey if u need the beach it's only a 4 hour ride in the pick up :-)

It's good to hear some of u r not far away from me so maybe could meet up for a beer and swap stories about pigs, rice, elephants and any other village topic haha. It's gotta be cheaper and less painful than bar fines and clinic visits lol

About 40 km East of Korat is a place called Sapradoo ( Sup Pradu on Google maps)..

As much water, sand, sun as you wish to have. Great food can be had here, but be aware of the dreadful toilets.

Been there many times, nice day out for the family, can eat all day for minimal expense. Go for it !

My wife and I have two places, one in Korat and share another with my in laws in a village up in the hills near Sikhio, over looks Khao Yai. Nice to keep a balance between the two worlds.

Village life can be whatever you want it to be. I like in a small town between Chaiyaphum & Khon Kaen. I don't think I live much differently than I did in the US, except its cheaper. Yes, roads, driving, all the usual crap people on TV complain about exist here, but they do everywhere, just there are less people which suits me at least, just fine.

If you're OK with a rural lifestyle wherever you come from, you're fine here. Your home can be whatever you want it to be....and yes you don't need to have a squat toilet!

Haha, the squat toilet was the first thing to go. I totally agree, it is what you make of it where ever you are, but it does help a huge amount with this forum to find what one needs to be more comfortable for the lifestyle you choose. Thanks participants and thanks thaivisa.

Or .. i also had a bar in Pattaya , it failed miserably and i lost a fortune. I licked my wounds and hightailed it to Issan with the brass. Mother n Father have just moved into the wifes house ... lol... I can explore many rice fields on a motorbike. It's great and dirt cheap ... wish i could see the Liver Birds.
