EXPATS who are living in Thailand full time, what is your total annual spending on these items just for YOU, just for ONE person?

In U.S. dollars.

http://www.xe.com/

Spending on food at home

Spending on restaurant meals

Spending on tobacco and alcohol

Obviously this can only be a rough estimate for most people.

With this information, you can COMPARE your personal spending in Thailand to this international survey showing for example that Canadians in Canada spend about 5,000 dollars total per person on these items.

I asked for EXPATS only so that the results could show how expats in Thailand compare to the various nationality averages shown in the survey.

From a personal POV it may also be interesting to see how your personal spending compares to the average in your home country, if it's on the list.

To put that idea to the test, we used data from the USDA and EuroMonitor International and calculated the total amount that residents of various countries around the world spend on food at home, dining out, alcohol and tobacco. Everything you ingest, basically.

I spent US$ on food and drink for the first time this year when I went on a business trip chez Uncle Sam this year.

I wouldn't like to speculate how much it was, but it was a fair whack. And it included some food, I think.

the poll doesn't make sense JT except when applied to single persons.

take a married couple with two children where out of four persons only one smokes expensive cigars and drinks the finest wines. the result is as irrelevant as is income, purchase power, net worth, etc. "per capita" daily presented a zillion times by financial @n@l-ysts.

next poll, but a realistic one, please!

Read the linked article. It's based on per person. There is a thing called -- MATH.

there is no mentioning in your poll that reading any link is mandatory. besides... reading a link has nothing to do with maths and most important is that i don't read the rubbish usually presented by Huffington Post.

based on your hint i clicked on the link and was not surprised to see (as mentioned above) irrelevant rubbish such as "per capita".

here's evidence that my claim concerning "per capita" applies is my correct claim "the per capita income of each person in my household exceeds US-Dollars 80,000 per annum."

Huffington Post readers might take my claim at face value and believe that my gardeners income exceeds $80k p.a. crazy.gif

next!

Food and drinks....about 30k per month....recently quit smoking.

Don't worry I haven't skewed the voting....what with me being the evil visiting type for only a quarter of the year. :D

Sometimes I pay for ladies' drinks, so I divided it by two

I had to do a more complicated division involving chocolate lava cake and margharita.

Lucky I have an O grade in Arithmetic....

Not MATH.

I have a dar more impressive qualification in that subject.

But I am still not meeting JT's criteria of expat. He's a tough nut with his polls! :-(

Why would you ask "EXPATS who are living in Thailand full time" to quote their spending in USD ?

lest you are referring to US citizens only, and those that are new at that, before they started calculate in THB

I only once checked my spending, it was about 9000/month for beer and sigs, some years ago

The reason I used U.S. dollars was so that people could directly compare to the international survey referenced in the link in the OP

as those values were all listed in U.S. dollars. thumbsup.gif

Anyway, this poll, as usual, is for ENTERTAINMENT purposes only. If people have any problem with it, tough bloody cookies, you can just skip it and nobody will care I assure you.

licklips.gif That said, come on, fess up, who spends over 40K USD on these items just for yourself in Thailand. I want details! Yes, I am jealous. Does that make me a bad person? licklips.gif

"There is a thing called -- MATH. "

In order to cover the various languages spoken here, it's more often called "maths, " although either way that means the results of the poll are likely to be skewed (or screwed) by the arithmetic skills of the participants, which may or may not introduce a socio-economic/educational/sobriety bias at one extreme or the other on the spending scale.

Were the results (and implications) of the crunchy versus smooth peanut butter survey ever published?

American English is supported on this forum. Don't be a putz!

In case anyone was wondering why I don't do many polls anymore, just read the stream here of ridiculously petty whines.

Seems a bit exclusionary and I reserve my right to be a putz if I want, anyway.

wow ! cool link, and we found why Grease is dragging Europe and Euro down

17. Greece -- $4,629 per person in 2012

Spending on food at home: $2740

Spending on restaurant meals: $1158

Spending on tobacco and alcohol: $731

Fun fact: The Greek people spent more than those of any other country at cafes last year -- $609.20 per person.

Most people could probably have a stab at their baht spending on alcohol for personal consumption per month and tobacco per month. Food is difficult unless you are single. Mixing up all three in an attempt to shoehorn it into some cr@ppy international survey makes it a completely uninteresting exercise as far as I'm concerned and it looks like I'm not alone.

Ya should have also put dating, entertaining. Buying gifts for the opposit sex etc, etc

Again, what I did include was STRICTLY defined in the linked article. Otherwise, you couldn't compare your spending to the levels in the article. I didn't write the article.
