Vegetable oil is the worst alternative in my opinion. Almost all of it is extracted using solvents, then filled with colourings, preservatives and other chemicals to give it the properties of a good fat. It's total rubbish.

Yes I understand but I mean a "good" alternative to palm oil strictly from a cook's sense. Because palm oil is not easily found and produced in bulk overseas, most Thai restaurants in the west will use vegetable oil. It produces a similar product when cooking. Nutrition and processing wise I'm sure it's no where as good as olive or organic coconut oil.
