Loy Krathong

Featured Replies

Hi there, WE are arriving in Chiang Mai on November 14 and looking to see some events for Loy Krathong. I beleive there are a few major ones on in town, What and where are these?

Also wondering about what areas for accomadation, within the old wal area our any specifics, I was last there in 2004 and stayed in a hotel near the night markets which was ok, not sure of its name but next to a starbucks. Don't have a car so We will be relying on taxis, or tuk tuks or similiar to get around.

Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Wazzi

Just been looking at the Tadkham village hotel at A. Muang Wua Lai, Does anyone know this hotel or the area?

Thanks again

Wazzi-dont know about Loy Krathong yet but for accommodation near WuaLai look at Smith Residence (Smith is a Thai doctor! and very good. )

You dont say what you want to spend - I like De Naga Hotel inside the moat (just) near Thapae Gate. But expensive for long stay which is why I moved to Smith before buying condo. Or if you want to be near Nimman, Green Hill is good with nice pool and gym.

I believe you were staying in the Suriwong hotel in the night bazaar it has upgraded. It is walking distance to Thai Pha gate and the Narawhat bridge. Both of which have Loi Krathong activities. The bridge will be closed down and filled with people. There will be a parade u7p Thai Pha road.

If you stay close to Thai Pha gate you can also walk to all these affairs.

I don't really know what goes on in the rest of the city but there is definatly a lot of action in the Thai Pha gate area and the parade to the bridge.

Thanks for the replies,, I will definately look up Smiths Residence and the Suriwong hotel,

Am looking for a good 3 star or maybe 4 star hotel, so not cheap charlie or to luxurious.

good to know the area around the Thai Pha gate is good

I always recommend Vieng mantra behind the old montri. Now I think it is called " M " hotel. Anyway, Vieng mantra, Kuhn Joy is the manager. Nice pool, rooms and bar/ reasturant. Located on a great street within walking distance to thaepae gate. Highly recommended. I suggest you call Joy as you will get a better rate than agoda.
