Immortality?

Featured Replies

Would you want to live forever?

What about just longer than normal?

Well then, how much longer than normal?

200? 500? 800?

Would you be willing to pay a price for it?

What price would you pay?

Why would you want to live so long?

Would you want to live forever?

No.

What about just longer than normal?

Yes.

14,257 years.

Would you be willing to pay a price for it?

Yes.

What price would you pay?

$1.00 (US, at current rates).

Why would you want to live so long?

I would like to be around to watch civilisation end, and the rest of the human race wipe itself out. Then spend a few thousand years travelling around, collecting and storing stuff so that aliens (or the next "superior" species) would see what we managed to accomplish in our short time at the top of the food chain.

Gee, Bops. You're going to be known as the thread starter. :o

As far as I'm concerned we already are immortal. Since death serves a good purpose it's no big deal. As Arnie would say, "I'll be back."

I probably want to live as long as I am in fairly good health, have access to good food and reading material and can somehow convince attractive women to let me shag them... but maybe not. :o

As long as one can live a quality life. :o

That doesn't seem to be the case for a lot of people. Though the quality is gone they're still hanging on to the bitter end. Hard to release something when you believe it's the only thing you've got and are afraid to consider where you might be going next.

I probably want to live as long as I . . . can somehow convince attractive women to let me shag them...

Time to go, UG. Nurse, we need a plug pulled here. :o

Two beauties woke me from my nap today begging to come over.

Heaven is a place called Thailand. :D

I ask because it seems that we are living longer and longer, so how much is enough? I know the research on the aging process in cells as gotten to a pont that they are saying there is a way to stop it, or at least slow it down, alot. So, our children or grandchildren might live their lives to over a 150 or more.

I have lived a varied life, done many things and been to many places. I only wish to live to see my son grow up and become a cool guy and independent enough so that if Mum pops her clogs..... he'll have some good stuff to remember about us.

The world needs more parents like you :o

I need to libe 500 years in order to learn everything I want to learn...to meet all nice people i want to meet...and dance all the flamenco i want to dance...

That's the key, all right. Wasn't there a Greek myth warning about this? Some guy wishes for eternal life and gets it, but he forgot to mention he wanted eternal *youth*, too- got pretty grim as time went on.

A former professor of mine who's retiring told me that the actuarial tables predict he'll live to 90- he gave a big laugh and said it wasn't that he didn't want to go on living, but that he'd seen what happened to people when they were 90....

There's the problem of memory, too... we don't have any idea what kinds of malfunctions there may be in brains that were barely evolved to help us reach 30, when we start living even to 150, much less longer.

I have not got time to respond properly.

However, a little bit of Trivia. Although we are living longer, we are also dying younger! ie the average age has remained virtually the same for the past 50 years as more and more young people die young - this then is balanced by older people dying older! I hope this makes sense.

well, you know...in de ol' Suphanburi shop house de stairs deys berry steep...quite an obstacle I'd say for a fat, alcoholic and diabetic type who just had to hobble down to gets' hesself another drink (the toilet's upstairs)...

now, I know I could get one ob de kids to look after me upstairs, but I worry about dying up dere...you know, you gets the rigor and they have to handle you like cardboard to negotiate the corners to gets yo' dead azz down the wat...

I saw dat happnen' to a friend in SoCal once when the folks from de 'Neptune Society' came to gather him up, incinerate him an' dump de ashes into de sea...cost about $50. Quite distressing to all present as he was a dignified man in life...

Wow I haven't posted the name 'Dorian Gray' even in my life before now - now two posts in one day/session. In the story his portrit ages instead of him. He lives a long time, but becomes a terrible person, blowing out the love of his life becuase her rendition of Juliet was not quite floorless. In the end, he kills himslef (tries to kill the painting).

I would like to live a long time, but not longer than my children and I'd want to die 2 seconds before my wife - so neither of us suffered the other's passing. I'm in my 30's now. By the time I'm 60, we would probably be able to live to 150 (its possible now as long as desease doesn't get you). By the time I reach 150, it will probably be 300, and so on. So we may well live for millenia.

One things for sure, if we carry on expanding at the rate we are, we will have to move house (planet). The next thing will be women over 100 giving birth - already 65 year olds have.

How much could be achieved if we could live millenia (assuming we expand our memories to hold in history).

Even as a Buddhist, a new life is a new struggle - new suffering - with a near eternal life, I already have my soulmate - have had all the kids I want - and I have so much I would like to do. I don't think my pension will stretch though :o
