Raging fire ravages Karon Plaza

PHUKET: Over B500,000 worth of damage to stock was caused this morning when a fire broke out at the Karon Plaza.

Prakong Lertsoongnern, 30, a security guard for the nearby Woraburi Hotel said he noticed the flames at around 6am this morning (October 19) and immediately called the Karon Municipality Office. Three fire trucks were dispatched to bring the fire under control.

Mr Prakong added that there were many tourists and residents nearby who feared that the fire would quickly spread to their hotels and homes. Fortunately the fire was contained and put out within 30 minutes. Nobody was injured.

An investigation is now underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.

It’s been a busy few days for the island’s firefighters, who battled all Wednesday night, in vain, to put out the SuperCheap fire.

Despite the extent of the damage and quickness with which Wednesday’s fire spread there have been no reported deaths.

Hope that the owner of the building that I live in doesn't ever run into money problems. 555+ cheesy.gif

Really, you have to think about why these things happen... you would hope that at 6am no one was around. If they were, then that's a probable cause.

Hmmmm.... a bit coincidental...?

Guess the locals trying to be "trendy".....

Conspiracist theory subscribers are going to have a field day with this one.......

Two retail units on one island burn down in the rainy season with days of each other. No casualties at either? I know Thailand is in recession but didn't realise it is that bad.

Somebody needs the land for a fantastic, ones in a lifetime, ploject?

When it comes to catastrophic fires during monsoon season, Phuket takes the cake.
