HUA HIN: -- On 5th October 2013, Princess Chulabhorn officially opened the Kasetsart University Vetinary Hospital Hua Hin. This was a grand occasion with representatives of all levels of government and practitioners and academics in the field of Veterinary Sciences in attendance.

Royal patronage of the University has been instrumental in this exceptional project being now a reality.
Professor Doctor Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Princess Chulabhorn studied Chemistry and graduated in 1979 from the Faculty of Science at Kasetsart University, with a Bachelor of Science, First Class Honours. She continued to study Science at Mahidol University, where she received her Doctorate in 1985.

Her Royal Highness is heavily involved in the promotion of scientific research, and regularly receives awards and prizes. She held the position of a guest lecturer in Chemistry at the Mahidol University. She also serves as the President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute. She was awarded the UNESCO Einstein Medal for her efforts in promoting scientific collaboration in 1986 and was the first Asian to be invited to join the Royal Society of Chemistry in the United Kingdom as an Honorary Fellow.

The hospital teaching facilities aim to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services in small and large animal practices. This new campus is dedicated to international training in veterinary education in South-East Asia Region.

Already fully operational with University students and highly qualified Vetinary professionals on site, the facilities have the capacity to provide world’s practice and research in Vetinary science as well as the best of care for animals in need. Vetinary services are available to the public and according to one guest at the opening are absolutely first class. As someone proving care for stray dogs, Josette Fisher (Temple Dogs) is a frequent visitor. This is her account of experiences to date:

‘The recent opening of the new Kasetsart University Veterinary Training Hospital in Hua Hin has been a real blessing for me. I have had my share of bad experiences with some vets around this area. Now I take all the dogs to the new hospital and I cannot be more positive about the place. In my experience the staff has been extraordinarily kind and understanding. All the vets can speak English. They are all young and work with the meticulous professionalism of newly qualified doctors. It gives me confidence and hope. The place is modern and the grounds it stands in are beautiful. I hope to use the new hospital for many years to come. The manager of the hospital is one of the professors and he has helped me by reducing the fees in certain cases. I really rave about them.’

STAGE TWO – The Princess Chulabhorn International Conference Centre
Construction is now underway for the next stage of facilities at this site. The Princess Chulabhorn International Conference Centre features accommodation and conference facilities which are destined to be the envy every Province in Thailand. This will be another major attraction to the region, attracting international standard academic and research based conferences as well as events with a less academic focus.

The construction responsibilities are with the Port and Marine Corporation Co. Ltd. (PAM) with their staff also being invited the University opening. Khun Siripaporn Boonrod (‘Elle’) is a civil engineer on site. She has been with this Company for the past 4 years and has relocated from her home town of Nakhon Sawang to take a leading role in project’s engineering requirements. She explained that construction will be over the next two years and is clearly very proud of the project and the status of the building to come.

In due course another Royal opening seems likely with continuing patronage from the Thailand Royal family demonstrating a strong commitment to these world class facilities.
