Lanna Lantern Festival promotes Chiang Rai tourism

BANGKOK, 14 November 2013 (NNT) – Chiang Rai Province is holding the annual “Lanna Lantern--commonly known as “Yi Peng-- festival,” which has been drawing lots of attention from both Thai and foreign tourists.

Chiang Rai province comes to life as Thais and foreigners are flocking to see the province’s annual “Lanna Lantern Festival”. The festival has been held under the cooperation of the Provincial Tourism and Sports Office and Central Plaza, Chiang Rai.

This year’s concept is based on the 12 Zodiac signs, after which each lantern is made according to the 12 horoscope signs. An aim of the festival is to preserve the local wisdom of lantern making, which has been passed down from their ancestors.

Live musical and traditional Lanna dance performances are part of the activity organized to create an authentic Lanna atmosphere. Lantern festival is a version of the 'Loy Kratong' celebration for the North.

The event also features Chiang Rai's five-star OTOP products. It will be held until November 16th.
