Train derails near Lamphun station

BANGKOK: -- The first official train leaving for the north from Bangkok to test the finished northern rail line derailed near Lamphun railway station this morning.

The train carried top executives of the State Railway of Thailand who included the governor Prapat Chongsa-nguan.

It was not immediately known what caused the derailment of the last bogie of the train but there was no injury.

The train was launched from Hua Lampong to Chiang Mai to test the safety of the train service on this northern route after it was closed for maintenance and repair for over two months.

It started the commemorative trip this morning on the way to Chiang Mai.

The governor has earlier said he would resign if there was another derailment on the route which was maintained and repaired.

So I guess the maintenance wasn't good enough. I think it should be this way all the time. Let the top officials be the ones who test after so called maintenance jobs and underfunded projects.

Somebody better be there to take pictures of their nervous faces the next time these officials board a train to prove how safe it is.

Correct on both points.

You just can't write this stuff.

The governor has earlier said he would resign if there was another derailment on the route which was maintained and repaired.

New elections on the way in the North. Any Shinawatra available for the post ?

Perhaps a real test-train, before the 'official' test-train, might have been a good idea ? facepalm.giflaugh.png

And, has he done so yet?

Or is he waiting for the replacement bus service so he can deliver it in person.

the ghosts don't want anybody to go to Chiang Mai by train

How can you defend this country from itself? From politicians down its a bloody joke...

Oh the shame..... the pure comedy gold shame cheesy.gif

So I guess they'll be an election for a new Governor (yeah right)

How much of the money that was spent to repair the rail line from Bangkok to Ching Mai went into corrupt politicians pocket? OK! I repeated myself, corrupt and politician have the same meaning just different words coffee1.gif

And so goes the story of Thailand: failed government, failed technology, failed railroad. When will it change?

p.s. I still love living here.

If the train had departed fro Hua Lampong, not been "Launched", this may not have happened.

Oh come on now, it was only the LAST bogie that came off, all the rest got through OK so it was a 90% successful trip? cheesy.gif

Wow. Talk about poetic justice, and the loss of face. wub.png

It's a 'sign' by the ghosts that we a 2 trillion baht High Speed Train from BBK to CMX to China.

I'm assuming the Railroad Puiyai will head back home in their chauffeured BMW's and Mercedes' with police escort. They should be coming down Thapae Road any minute now.

Road accidents are possible; derailments are a guarantee; loss of face -- priceless! rolleyes.gif

As Prapat Chongsa-nguan is going to resign, I might apply for the job smile.png .
I have years of experience with my Lego and Hornby set and haven't had
half as many derailments as SRT has.giggle.gif

Many sorries. Cannot. You over qualified, khrap.

Only about 10kms before CM. Who wants to bet it was also running late before the derailment?

The next mobile cabinet should be held on the Bangkok-Chiang Mai line, preferably with Suthep as it's special guest. thumbsup.gif
