May 10, 200619 yr Hi everybody, Since my friends cannot really enjoy a night of opera I'd thought maybe one of you ladies out there would like to join me. For B2000 there is a dinner and opera concert at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit May 16th. (next week) If you're into opera maybe you would also like to join me for Cosi fan Tutte at the Culture Centre June 24th??? I'm a 22 year old girl from the Netherlands doing my internship here.

But I'm not sure other operas would be as good with only piano accompaniment. If you're into opera maybe you would also like to join me for Cosi fan Tutte at the Culture Centre June 24th??? This might be more fun. The Bangkok Opera's production of The Magic Flute was pretty good for the price. Good luck with finding opera lovers on ThaiVisa though...

Mmm, I'm new to the forum and didn't know what kind of people are online. Well, let's hope for the best! By the way, Camerata, I saw the Magic Flute last month in the Culture Centre, what a waste of time and money! Another one is coming up in June by some Hungarian/Croatian (I don't really remember) ensamble. Hoping that that version might be better...

For several years all we had was one chance a year to see opera at the TCC put on by an Eastern European opera company. Tickets for decent seats are normally 2000-4000 baht. Then came the Sheraton performances in a small hall with only a piano and 4-6 singers from the European Chamber Opera and no set changes. Now we have the Bangkok Opera which is struggling to put on decent performances at an affordable price, but it doesn't have much experience or a lot of local singers. I thought they did fine with Magic Flute, despite the single set and mediocre costumes. The youngish audience liked it, and I think that is one of their objectives - to make it more accessible to young people. You can't expect international standard opera from them just yet, and especially not for 1000 baht. The problem I had was the audience was too noisy and people were actually taking photographs during the last act. I expect Cosi fan Tutte will be the same, except it will be sung in English. If they have Thai dialogue in it, they should have English surtitles this time since half the audience will be foreigners who don't necessarily speak Thai.
