I am having a steel boat built in Phuket at an all Thai speaking boatyard. It looks fine so far, but I would really sleep better if an experienced welder could take a look. I would prefer to use a farang as I don't want them to know I am doubting their work. Any leads will be appreciated.

This might be better off in the Phuket section as you will need a welder in Phuket to come have a look, right?

A welder for steel works is fine, but I think you need a marine engineer, it has not only to do with the weldseams, also the structure of the hull. Spars and webbs have to be right dimesioned and located. Are you going to use the boat for pleasure or business?

Is the boat only for Thai waters?

Thanks for the advice Master Chief

The design was checked by a navel architect in BKK, but it is getting expensive to keep flying him down here all the time. I was just looking for a 2nd opinion from someone with a little knowledge. Yes, I plan to use the boat commerically around the Phuket area

One of the best boat 'builders' I know of in Phuket is Mark Horwood of Lattitude 8.

You can contact him via The Lighthouse bar at Chalong Bay.
