tried Kaed Suan Kaew and got the normal 'Speedo' top for around 2,200 but i understand there are some thermal tops that can be worn in cold water?

any shops here stock them?

What you need is goose fat.

Spread liberally all over....that's what swimmers use to keep the cold out.

.....don't they?

Sent via tin can and string after pigeon shot

Saw the 'rash vest' type of type in Big C extra (Super highway) yesterday.... aprox 750 baht, a tad cheaper than what you saw in KSK. Havent seen the dive tops here in CM, possibly cause there aint a lot of beaches about! I did have a 1mm top when in the Philippines which was great, pity I left it there.

Not sure if you wore a thermal top under the rash vest would work.....smile.png

Once you get in the water ,you should find it warmer than been out,

it would be getting out, that i would not look forward.

wet suit is OTT I agree but someone told me there was an "between" type of vest - it's fricking cold !!! coffee1.gif

Yes its a 1mm wet suit.... doesnt really look like a wet suit, more like a rash vest and it works well. Id think you would possibly have to try a town/city closer to the water/sea. BKK should have em somewhere....perhaps try and google it?

Just went to a mares website and they do have a 0.5mm thermo guard long sleeve top, but its a bit pricey! 2940baht and there is an outlet in BKK.

Heres the link and then you have to open the pdf file for prices:

http://www.sde-asiapacific.com/price-lists/

Code 412970 is the item

You may possibly be able to haggle a cheaper price as this is a 'recommended' retail list. Contact details and an email address is also in that link.

Gd luck

A rash vest is just that to avoid rashes when riding a board or body boarding its has no thermal qualities at all.Its all so helps avoid excess sun for skin cancer sufferers like myself.

As someone has suggested probably buy something on on line. Its not that cold to still swim just get in the sun after you get out...thumbsup.gif we all get bit soft, me included, but its really not that cold compared with winter in Oz for example where ocean temps gets to 13 deg its still 20 in our pool in CM

If you leave your swim until mid afternoon when the sun,if any ,has been on the water all day it helps.

Update on our pool, down to 18 at 2pm, still swimmable (is that a word ?)

I tried this neopren yesterday and it's really good - easily warm enough for a few lengths - just need to find it now in CM or next time I'm in bKK

Neopren is the material if anyone's interested

tried a friends top and very little cold gets through

Neoprene are what wetsuits are made out of.

As water contracts heat from the human body 25 times faster than air, neoprene wetsuits work by trapping a very thin layer of water between your body and the suit. Your body then heats this layer and it keeps you warm.

Rash guards do not keep you warm... neither do wetsuits that are too big for you

I've found cold weather swimming to be more tolerable if I wear two swim caps. One of those thick silicone ones over my hair with a lighter spandex one on top. Normally I don't like the thick silicone caps because they fit tight and give me a headache, but they do keep my head, and thus all of me, warmer for winter swims. They say a vast amount of heat is lost thru your scalp.

Twenty provinces in grip of chill weather

The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- With upper Thailand expected to experience chilly weather beyond the New Year holidays and the lower South more rains and strong winds and waves, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department yesterday reported that 155 districts of 20 provinces had been declared cold spell disaster zones.

Department chief Chatchai Promlert said 6.7 million people were affected by the cold spell that ravaged 20 provinces, including nine in the Northeast, 10 in the North and Ratchaburi's Suan Pheung district.

Chatchai also cited a Thai Meteorological Department report that the chilly weather would last until mid-February 2014 and said the department, while tackling the cold spell, was also planning to tackle the drought particularly in the North and Northeast
