Not buying it, this is one of the rich elite families that support the dems, there wealth plus the other elites make the Thaksin family look like poor street beggers. I would suspect as more thais are becoming aware of the key players on both sides that there Sigha beer sales are suffering so they needed to put out this bs news out because they are loosing sales.

wow you serious?

Yes follow the money and the truth will be unvailed:

Top 10 wealthiest people in thailand; ( Names withheld)

#1 12,6 billion USD - True- note: 1992 masacure by then in power General Suchinda of the Red protesters stepped down from power then True made him Chiarman

#2 12.3 billion USD - Realestate - Central world among others, why do you think the Reds picked this site as there stronghold in the 2010 protest!

#3 10.6 billion USD - Thai beverage - well known family active Dem supporter

#4 7.8 billion USD - Red Bull - we all know the mentality of the current one running this company

#5 3.9 billion USD - Media & banking - Runs the network that supports the current protest

#6 2.4 billion USD - Singha Family - Current article Daughter is helping lead the protest!

#10 1.70 billion USD Thaksin, this is after they took 2.3 billion USD but returned 1.billion.

This whole struggle is about power and the rich elites not wanting to give it up! they can not win the power back through a democractic methods as the they do not have the peoples support for many different reasons, so there only option at this stage is VIa coups and in using there money/influence.

The rankings and their source not withstanding

Do you know for fact that all these companies are backing the Democrats 100% and not hedging their bets across both parties?

#4 - Red Bull: You are aware his father runs the company right?

#5 - Media: You do know which station this guy runs, right? I'll give you a hint: The only similarity is that they share a common number on the CTH channel list.

#6 - Singha: You would be also aware that the daughter is not actively involved in that side of the business. If not, then I would suggest you read the OP as the wording would be a lot different if she were.

#8 - Well it can be argued where the loyalties lie. Similar to #6 I would suspect.

So the "truth" as you claim is not going to be revealed with your interpretation of Forbes Top 10 Thai billionaires. There's a lot more at play than just this and if you believe otherwise then I suggest you start investing in aluminium foil.

Of this I have no doubt. The old money doesn't fancy having anyone else at the table.

Some do, most don't. Quite a few of these families have active democrat MPs. Why would it have to be a conspiracy theory?,,just look at the political businesses of most of the ptp guys.

In direct competition with these families.

The claim was made that 9 out of the 10 families listed were backing the Democrats. Now I questioned whether bkkfaranguy knew this for a fact that these 9 families backed the Democrats 100%.

I really don't get his point by quoting the Top 10's net worth either, does he honestly believe that 9/10 families are going to be shelling out their net worth to the Democrats? We all know what Old Square Face likes to do with his money...

As I said, if he thinks that these 9 families are backing just one horse in this race then he's sadly mistaken...

'Singha Heiress' Undeterred By Tycoon's Warning: Abhisit

13875386401387538954l.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The anti-government socialite Ms. Chitapas Bhirombhakdi will not cease her political activities despite warning from her family patriarch, said chairman of the Democrat Party.

Ms. Chitapas, a member of the large family which owns the brewery that produces Singha Beer, has been making headlines in recent months as an outspoken activist against the government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

She also voiced her belief to a number of media that electoral democracy might not work for Thailand since many of the rural voters are uneducated.

But her actions have apparently raised the ire of the executive director of Boonrawd Brewery, Mr. Santi Bhirombhakdi, who wrote a letter to Ms. Chitapas′ father Mr. Chutinant Bhirombhakdi, expressing his frustration that the public has associated the family and the company with Ms. Chitapas′ political views.

The letter, which was leaked to the media, also included a warning that Mr. Chutinant would be held responsible for any damage caused by his daughter.

However, leader of Democrat Party Abhisit Vejjajiva told reporters today that he has discussed with Ms. Chitapas about the matter earlier today and Ms. Chitapas has insisted that she will not waver in her political cause.

"I sympathise with her because her political path has affected her," Mr. Abhisit said, "I also sympathise with her family that her company because they were affected by it, too. This is problem about political situation."

He added, "But Ms. Chitapas is an adult. She has chosen to do political work because she believes it will benefit her country."

Meanwhile, Mr. Santi, the Singha boss, also commented on the letter during his appearance at New Year party at Boonrawd Brewery headquarters, which was attended by hundreds of staff of the company.

According to one high-ranking employee who attended the event, Mr. Santi said in his speech that he was upset by the interview Ms. Chitapas gave to the AFP, in which she claimed that rural population of Thailand did not understand democracy.

Mr. Santi said the statement gravely harms the company, since the brewery relies on massive sales in the countryside. He also stressed that "the company is in debt to the customers", and that he will not allow his company to be politicised.

I note that abhisit doesn't disagree.

Ironically singha has a brewery in Khon Kaen and in Chiang mai. I wonder if the bangkok bunch consider themselves more sophisticated than their colleagues.

What's the big deal? In essence she was correct. People who cannot read and write, people who did not complete basic education, people who are told how to vote etc...etc...should be disqualified from voting. As a matter of fact, Thailand should introduce a minimum IQ requirement for anyone who wishes to participate in the election. Seriously. That would disqualify quite large number of the politicians who are currently in charge of the country.

As things stand, you could nominate a buffalo to be the PM of Thailand on behalf of the PTP/UDD and their supporters would vote for the buffalo. Bet you.

Might disqualify an awful lot of supposedly intelligent people too.

Adult literacy is actually very high for thailand.

you're obviously not an american.

After the american war of independence the vast majority of americans could neither read nor write but they knew what they were fighting for and they got the vote.

Agreed there is a lot more at play than just this and we can not discuss it on this forum or any other, only behind closed doors. But if you do not believe that the Dems have much more backing, then I have a piece of the Brooklyn Bridge I can mnake you one hell of a deal on!

Go through that same lists Top 50, there's a lot of red outside of the Top 10. Gives you a bit more perspective.

Dems having more backing? From a financial viewpoint? Hard to say really isn't it? However, I will say that your claim of 9 of the top 10 being behind the Dems is not accurate.

Don't blame them in the least in trying to distance themselves from her.

They are obviously worried about the impact to their brand, I certainly would be.

When you consider that Leo Beer has a huge customer base especially upcountry, I would not be at all surprised if a boycott was already taking place.

Funny you should say that, Wave, but our sales of Leo (up here near Chiang Mai) have fallen considerably since that snotty little cow started spouting off about the "uneducated rural voters".

No hatred in your unbiased reporting of the sales from your shop/bar/restaurant or whatever. Unlike those you chastise for commenting on the PM/DM.

Always nice to see red tinted fairness in operation. No double standar

Is the truth hurting you then? Whether you like it or not, the simple fact is that "the uneducated rural voters" are voting with their cash. We actually haven't sold a single bottle of Leo in two weeks, while Chang sales have risen. Don't need tinted glasses to see the facts.

No hatred towards the "snotty little cow", just utter contempt for her and all the other elitist clowns who have denigrated the populace of the North and Isaan for years. Just look back through some of the threads here on TV, and see the constant references to kwais, stupid idiots, etc used to humiliate them.

If you sincerely believe that having a few million Baht in you bank account makes you a better person, then I feel very sorry for you.

The Shinawatras and their cronies went into politics to make more money after already being so rich. While this young lady is actually costing her family money in terms of lost beer sales for doing and saying what she believes. Respect to her for standing up for she believes in.

What do you think she is doing supporting Suthep? These companies have bought favour and protection from competition for ever. They don't have thaksin in their pocket and that scares the hell out of them.

Imagine if Thaksin removed excise on imported beer.

Woops. There goes your domestic duopoly.

Is that your personal opinion or do you have some kind of evidence? Has Thaksin and his subsequent puppet government ever tried removing or lowering excise for imported beer?

That's actually quite ironic, given Thai Bev's political affiliations...

Does the increased Chang sales speak to the intelligence levels of those up north and almost validate case in point Chitpas's view?

Or is it simply that Chang tastes better?

Or have they dropped the price of it knowing that on volume sales they will cover the price drop?

Questions questions questions...

That's a good point. But ThaiBev aren't advertising their stance by sitting in bulldozers at the anti-govt protests and making statements about 're-educating' rural people. The vast majority of people are probably unaware that they may be helping fund the Democrats by drinking Chang. So I can see why the Singha patriarch is annoyed...

You do know there's more to it than just excise tax, right?

Removing the excise tax would also benefit both Chang and Singha in the same way it would with beer from any country with an FTA.

Specifically this nope. Is singha known to be a staunch democrat party supporter yes.

I still stand by my assertion of this being a business turf war. Interesting to see more companies getting dragged out into the public domain.

Note that Chang beer is Thaksin big buddy. It's so easy to see the political sides. He would love nothing better than to see singha alienate half of up country Thailand.

So in other words, you don't really know what's going on. You have no real knowledge why Ms. Chitpas is doing this. Whether she really believes in what she's doing or whether she's doing it to protect her family's business interests. You're just offering an opinion on this matter like the rest of us. And that's fine, we're all here to offer our differing opinions as long we don't think our opinions are the gospel truth.

What do you think she is doing supporting Suthep? These companies have bought favour and protection from competition for ever. They don't have thaksin in their pocket and that scares the hell out of them.

Imagine if Thaksin removed excise on imported beer.

Woops. There goes your domestic duopoly.

You do know there's more to it than just excise tax, right?

Removing the excise tax would also benefit both Chang and Singha in the same way it would with beer from any country with an FTA.

Huh? Both Chang and Singha sit behind import duties. But Chang has spirits also in its portfolio. You think singha wants free foreign access to the thai market or worse,,say inbev to build a factory in thailand?

These companies live and breathe by the fact that they are protected. Beer is only one business. There are many others where foreign entities are prevented entry.

Specifically this nope. Is singha known to be a staunch democrat party supporter yes.

No I don't trust why she's doing this and her odious view of the world make it even easier to not support her.
