Who has been the subject of a break and enter at home?

About 25 years ago I lived for a year in that sink of iniquity, Pattaya, for an interminable and horrible year. My house was broken into four times, once through the roof, and anything of "value" (electronics but not rare books) was stolen.

By contrast, I have lived in Chiang Mai for 25 years and never had a burglary or theft of any kind. Long may it remain so!

Was it bad in Pattaya 25 years ago ????

It was horrible. I moved there to work (journalist) as there was no internet connectivity at that time and I needed to be near Bangkok, but wanted to live outside the capital (had been there for a number of years). Of course there were many good folks, no doubt, but also the nastiest Farang and the least pleasant Thai I have ever met.

very interesting thread from Edwin......again,yet another paradox in LOS.....threat of violence is the motivation behind the non-violent veneer......I would truly like to meet a Buddhist someday.

Admittedly of topic....

You would have to of read the edwin post to catch the deeper meaning of the statement, which blew right over your head chiengmaijoe, the statement has nothing to do with crime particularly, but duality....which is what the lower forms of Buddhism are based on.

"Go to Wat"...go to a church and you will certainly meet a lot of pious-people.

A friend had his house broken into, but his ex-wife had already stripped his house almost bare. The thieves felt sorry for him and left him

something.

Not in Thailand, but it has happened at the Gold Coast, Australia.

I was working in the downstair office, when I heard really loud banging from the back of the house.

After a few of them I walked into the lounge to see someone climbing through a whole he'd smashed in the double glass sliding doors.

We'd been broken into before, so I had weapons stashed.

We faced off, kinda, but really he just he just ran when he saw I was angry, armed and violent in the house.

There were 3 women upstairs, and I really wonder what might have happened if I wasn't lucky enough to have caught him smashing the glass doors in.

I dialled 000 just after he'd gotten away over the front fence, and was told to get hang up as the intruder wasn't in the house.

The cops sent a couple of cars to try find the guy and were really quite fast about it. They sent the forensics guys the next day for prints but didn't get anything.

The Police told me the same guy hit 3 other houses nearby in the same night, if I recall correctly someone got hurt really badly too unsure.png

The neighbours house, exactly the same as ours (split 1/4 a block) wasn't burgled, possibly because of the visible security camera above the same door looking over the back porch. My experience ( abliet 2nd hand, from close friend and the neigbours in this story) is that cameras really do work, as deterrent and evidence.

It was really interesting having the fight or flight response tested like that. No way I'm running away in my own home.

I felt good defending my turf, but violated that I had to.

I gave immedite notice to leave the house and moved out.

To singapore.

So now I stay well armed(legal) and have everything waiting to bound and transport/dispose of the next one. For them that haven't been broken into yet it feels disgusting and lingers in the back of the mind. It would be a great thing to catch a creep breaking in and extract full revenge. Good for the mind.

You should see a doctor and get your rage under control before you hurt someone.

I guess you will call for help right?

And you say this guys need to see a doctor, at least he's prepared to fight his own battles.whistling.gif

Might be good for the brain but potentially not good for your health..... you may have gotten married here, but with a strong reactive view as expressed above you will be buried here..... 'revenge' is a big time calling card with the Thais. What if the 'kamoee' you pop turned out to be a neighbors kid (in many cases apparently, neighbors are suspect).... you would be forced to make a very quick move....what good is that? you protected your Sony and other store-buys but lose your house..... "reaction" is the lowest form of intelligence.... since you are NOT in Kansas....avoid tragedy and opt for another strategy...... as a Farang, you are all-ways wrong.

I'm not saying we were poor, but we had people break into our house when I was young, and they felt so sorry for us they redecorated the place.

When we had all our christmas presents stolen, my dad gave me an empty shoe box and old me it was an Action Man Deserter.

Protecting himself and his property isn't the problem. Looking forward to it is.
