PHUKET: -- Police yesterday arrested two men after separate raids on the same small street in Samkong, Phuket Town, resulted in the seizure of 1,818 pills of ya bah (methamphetamine) and 4.99 grams of ya ice (crystal methamphetamine).

Acting on a tip-off, officers arrived at the house of Worasak Bamrung, 30, in Soi Prayoon 3/1 (map here) at 3am.

A search of the premises uncovered five blue ziplock bags each containing 200 ya bah pills, a clear plastic bag with 18 more ya bah pills, and two more plastic bags, one containing 3.89 grams of ya ice and the other 1.10 grams of the drug.

Officers also seized as evidence a Nokia mobile phone, drug paraphernalia and an orange Mazda pickup truck.

During questioning by police, Mr Worasak named Withawat Ardharn as his supplier, said Col Jaroon Bangprasit of the Phuket Provincial Police.

“We raided Withawat’s rental house in the same street at 2pm yesterday,” Col Jaroon told the Phuket Gazette.

“A search of the house uncovered four plastic bags each containing 200 ya bah pills. The bags matched those seized in the arrest of Mr Worasak,” he said.

Both men were charged with possession of category 1 drug with intent to sell, Col Jaroon confirmed.

A bit off topic, but why do Thais always call e.g. 4,99 'more than 4', in stead of 'almost 5', or even '5'. Same at the shops.

"More than" sounds more heinous than "less than." :)

When buying and selling drugs its quite common for it never to be quite the said amount. There is always someone taxing a little bit to smoke or sell on

Your reply has nothing to do with the previous comment.

BTW, it would seem that you are an expert on drugs and their usage?

Thai usage of math and percentages tend to indicate their minimal ability to work with numbers.

drug den:

a hangout for users of drugs, typically heroin addicts and various other junkies. Often littered with drug paraphernalia, used needles, tinfoil, candles

Those two locations were just dealers but I guess it is in line with the journalistic reporting abilities of that news site to refer to them as dens.

Police officers arrested two men, seized 1,818 methamphetamine [Yaba] pills and 4.99 grams of crystal methamphetamine [Ya Ice] in a drug bust on Friday (December 20).

Phuket: Over 1,000 Yaba pills seized in arrest of two men
Mr. Bangdol Bamrung (Worasak), 30, and Mr. Banggift Artharn (Wittawat), 34, of Krabi, were arrested at a house on Yawaraj Rd, with 1,018 Yaba pills that are colored in red-orange and carry logo WY contained in five plastic zipper bags. The 4.99 grams of Ya Ice were contained in two zipper plastic bags.

Officers also recovered a Nokia mobile phone, drug paraphernalia and a pick-up truck.

Police received an anonymous tip claiming that Mr. Worasak has engaged in behavior associated with selling drugs to teenagers in Phuket. The officers went to investigate and found teenagers walking out from the house several time.

An inspection of the house revealed the storage of 1,018 Yaba pills and 4.99 grams of Ya Ice.

Mr. Worasak admitted that he bought Yaba and Ya Ice from Banggift as well as making several deliveries, with the last drop off having taken place on December 18.

Mr. Worasak was charged with possession of Yaba and Ya Ice with intent to sell and Mr. Wittawat was charged with possession of Yaba with intent to sell. The two were taken to Muang phuket police for questioning.

They mentioned 4.99 grams because that's what they found! In regards to the "more than", maybe 4 grams is the limit for personal use, and in that case more than 4 grams means they look at him as a dealer rather than a user.

Soi Ya Bah .... Now I've heard it all cheesy.gif

Like Soi BJ has lots of innuendo's but means something else

Where can I find this Soi BJ you speak of?

It's funny how these guys almost always give up their supplier immediately. They must undergo a somewhat robust "interrogation" to do so. And the cops always inform on the informer to the reporters. In the US, this would be a death sentence for many.

Gee!!! I would have nere guessed. In Puget???? Oh my God. They could probibly find in it any of the bars and strip clubs there. Or maybe even all of them. They could look in the 7-11's also.
