BANGKOK: -- Bangna police have apprehended a woman and three men for allegedly involving in the series of attacks in the capital on anti-government rallies including bomb attack at Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva's Sukhumvit residence last night.

PHUKET: -- The recent news that German Honorary Consul Dirk Naumann would be leaving his post so soon after the Australian Honorary Consul, Larry Cunningham, departed his, was met with worried whispers that the ‘other’ most outspoken honorary consul had given up amid an avalanche of antipathy for the work that they were doing, or at least attempting to do.

Malaysia ramps up effort to draw in Thai tourists fed up with politics at home

SET relocates services to Esplanade

BANGKOK: -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) today closed its office building temporarily for safety reason after protesters threaten to block the entrance of the SET building, located next to Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.


The SET also moved its investors’ information services centre to Esplanade shopping complex on Ratchadaphisek Rd.

Two wounded as shots fired on Bangkok protest

BANGKOK, January 15, 2014 (AFP) - Two people were wounded in a shooting at an opposition rally in the Thai capital Wednesday, authorities said, as protest leaders prepared to march through plush city neighbourhoods in their bid to oust the premier.

Meeting to discuss delay of election starts Wednesday

BANGKOK: -- A government-sponsored meeting held to discuss the Election Commission (EC)’s suggestion to delay the February 2 poll started at 10.30am Wednesday.


Caretaker PrimeYingluck Shinawatra attended the meeting with about 70 participants. Meanwhile, five members of the EC did not join, but EC secretary general Puchon Nutrawong represented it at the meeting.

Permanent Secretary for Justice Kittipong Kittayarak, who posted on his Facebook page yesterday that the election should be postponed for three to six months, did not join the meeting. The Democrat Party and the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) that held mass rallies in the capital did not send representatives to attend the event.

Assailant hurls bomb into former PM Abhisit's home, no injuries reported

BANGKOK, Jan 15 – An unknown assailant hurled a bomb into the home of Democrat Party leader and former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva at Bangkok's affluent Sukhumvit area, damaging the home but there was no report of injuries.
