Popular Post anonymouse
Just visited this restaurant for the first time for lunch and had an enjoyable meal, a little before the turn off to Doi Saket, you need to keep your eyes peeled as the sign isn't that big and from the outside just looks like any other of the Thai Restaurants [shacks ] that are on this road. As mentioned above it doesn't look much from the outside but once closer you can see it is clean and well kept with a rustic ambiance, As it was just for a quick lunchtime visit to try it out the Wife, Kids and myself had two pizzas, 2 Italian coffees and 3 soft drinks between us the bill coming to 575 which was very reasonable. The pizzas were thin based Italian style and you can choose from well over a dozen different options all around the 200-250 range. There is a wide choice of other dishes including pastas and some Thai dishes as well as a few fusion dishes. Didn't really check out the beer/wines and spirits but did notice a large beer was 70 baht. I had a brief chat with the owner who is from Bologna and recommended that we try the Bolognese next time as he used his Grandmothers traditional recipe for this and I certainly will. With the plethora of good Italian restaurants in Chiang Mai I wouldn't say make a special trip out to Sole E Luna but if you are North of Town and don't fancy going into the city, live or are traveling in the vicinity or visiting sites in the area you might want to give it a go. As a Doi Saket resident I will be visiting regularly now and it is a great little addition to the area. Good Italian Food at very reasonable prices.
eyecatcher
I have noticed this little place every time I take the bus trip to mae sai, and always think.....what an unusual place for a restaurant. Obviously the dating community out there is limited, and the local village thais I imagine not to be so affluent. But, I guess the rent is 2 bags of rice and the owner is retired and perfectly happy if he can turnover a couple of meals a day. I bet he is happier and less stressed than those having to find 20~50k a month for rent in the city. Chok dee

Apart from my party of 4 there was another Westerner who seemed to be a regular and I wasn't paying close attention but I think another party of two Westerners with their Thai other half's. We were on an early lunch so I'm guessing he does OK on the weekends at least. They are open 11-10 by the way.

sante
I haven't been there but just found several reviews and a map on Trip Advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293917-d5888630-Reviews-Sole_e_Luna_Restaurant_Cafe-Chiang_Mai.html
BarnicaleBob
I also have been there, real nice guy who runs it and the food is good. By the way there are a lot of westerners living out here in Doi Saket so he will have no problem staying busy with us locals.
Nienke
Does anyone have better directions? to the restaurant and do they have a closing day? thanks regards Worgeordie Directions: pass the Doi Saket hospital and its U-turn on your right, when heading direction Chiang Rai. On your left you pass a 7/11 and the post office. A little further you go over a small bridge. Right after this bridge the restaurant is on your left, next to a shop here they sell wood. Sufficient parking availability. Have had lunch at Sole E luna several times, now. Never been disappointed. Angelo and his wife are lovely, helpful and very friendly people.
pilou
We were there tonight, plain food, friendly owner, excellent diner ( the bolognese fresh pasta was indeed very nice ), and reasonable price. We will return ...
Genericnic
The blue pin should get you within a few meters of the place based on Nienke's directions. If you use Street View you won't see it though since the images they use were most likely taken before the restaurant was opened. http://goo.gl/maps/j00uV David
Genericnic
I can confirm that the location in the link on my prior post is correct. Was out riding and went to Doi Saket today. On the way back to CM, I stopped in for a bite to eat. I had the bruschetta classic which had an abundance of fresh tomatoes. Very tasty. I also had the pork steak cooked with black pepper. The meat was nice and tender and well cooked. It came with an order of fries. Add a Schweppes lemon soda and I was set. The price for the appetizer, main, and drink was 170 baht. I'd definitely go back again to tray some of the other dishes on the menu. David
JimGant
Best pizza I've had in ages. You can't get the crust thin enough for my likes, but Angelo certainly does. Some of the chain stores, like Pizza Hut, have even discontinued thin crust pizza, claiming lack of demand. How can anyone eat a pizza where the dough is half an inch thick..........? Anyway, took a pork chop and salad dinner bai bahn, and the sample in the car on the way home says this is another winner. Certainly for the folks Doi Saket way, Angelo is now giving Sorn, Roberto, and the other local restauranteurs, a run for their money.

Personally I think he is head and shoulders above the other two in both his food and service...and on a more selfish note closer to me as well.
junglechef
If she looks like a Chef, moves like a Chef and cooks like a Chef then probably she is, well not probably, as we were happily surprised to find that she really knew how to whip up some good food. The homemade pasta was our favorite and the lasagna was as good as I've had here. Pizza was good too even tough the very thin crust is not my preferred style. Combined with the friendly hospitality of the husband and wife team it all made for a lunch that was a lovely treat!
Genericnic
Does anyone know if they are open on Sundays? I forgot to ask when I was there last week. I have a friend that is going out riding with me tomorrow and she really likes Pizza. Thanks David
sappersrest
Fantastic food, the home made bread and ravioli were to die for. Prices very reasonable. Now on my weekly to do list.

David If I were you, I'd be hoping he puts the prices up a bit because there's probably not enough profit to be making a real go of it, unless he's packed every day, of course.
