Best Dental Clinics in Bangkok (Endodontists and Crowns)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hello!

Wondering if anybody knows of many good Dental Clinics in Bangkok that provide very good quality services specialising in Endodontics (Root Canal Therapy) and Crowns.

If anybody has had good experience with any Dental Clinics with a good reputation for quality and service for Root Canal and Crowns please let me know.

Also it's important that the Dental Clinics employ Dentist with International Qualifications if possible so if anybody has had experience with Dentists with these Qualifications please let me know.

Thank you

Catherine

You probably shouldn't get hung up on the need for international qualifications of Thai dentists. The dental schools here are excellent and there are literally thousands of very very good dentists in Thailand. All the hospitals have dental departments, Bumrungrad is probably the most expensive but is likely to be the one to leave you feeling most comfortable, if you can find a smaller clinic you'll get equally good treatment at a third of the price.

Hi Moonsugar, there are many dental clinics and even dental hospitals in Thailand. This dental tourism provider has their own list of qualified dentist in Bangkok ( http://www.placidway.com/search-page/2/Thailand,Dentistry,/search.html ) which you can try and choose from. One of the best way to choose a good dentists is to use a reputable, international medical tourism consultancy. As we most of us know, dental care in Thailand is better than most dental clinics in the Western countries.

asavanant.com located on Thong Lor is an excellent clinic. I have been using them for 9 years, although I haven't had root canals or crowns from them myself, just ceramic implants.

I recently had a root canal and crown at Dentajoy Thonglor. I hate going to the dentist but they were good. Not cheap though

Hi

Thank you for your replies!

There's another question I need to ask?

Do you know of any dentists at any of the clinics that have a good reputation for really good and humble service and have very high professional qualifications?

Need to find a dentist that has a good history of dental experience, quality of care to patients and has international qualifications as well as local qualifications from the universities in Bangkok?

If anyone knows of any dentists that meet the description please give a name and clinic.

Thanks

I feel like people sugar coat this subject here. I could go into my theories why, but I wont. In short, if a good solid dentist in the US is say a 10 for example, I would call the average dentist here about a 6 or 7. If you have to get your teeth cleaned it may move up to 9 or 10, but for anything serious, forget it, the quality is going to be way lower.

People who think the docs here are good must not be living here. Have you been to the schools? Seen the way they train people? Seen the way they do things in general? This is not top notch care people. Places like Bumrungrad can put a nice cherry on the top and make things look good, but it is really just very expensive lipstick put onto a pretty darned ugly pig.

Having said all that, if you must go here I recommend asavanant.

Rubbish, I've lived here full time for ten years and I've seen ample evidence of real professionalism and expertise in the dental profession that I've not seen in other countries and I've spent many years living in the US, the UK and Asia. Bumrungrad, well, that's another story.

NONSENSE, and the last time you chimed in on dental work in the health forum, you had to admit you was wrong. I think you was giving your advice / opinion on crowns. Your previous info. was wrong, and you know it

The fact that I didn't know a person could have a crown fitted without first having a root canal done is about a million miles away from the subject of whether there are quality dentists in Thailand or not - there are, end of. But since you seem to be keeping track of how many times I am right or wrong on a given subject, best you pay attention to the detail from here on out, Mr Munger!

I followed the advice of the best ThaiVisa moderator, Sheryl, and went to Dental Hospital in Suk 49, near Samitivej Hospital. It is 15 minutes walk from BTS or a short motorbike ride, but pleasant, painless and professional. Most patients are farang and costs are high by Thai standards, though.

It's possible that this view is true in general, but my own, limited experience contradicts it. I used both Asavanant and a dentist on Park Avenue, Manhattan for about 7 years while I visited Thailand annually before settling here a couple of years ago. Both the dentists had good qualifications and each knew about the other. It was very informative to have them review each other's work every year. The Park Avenue dentist examined the ceramic fillings done by the Asavanant dentist and found that they were done correctly, in particular, that radiographic cement was used as required. The Asavanant dentist however once found a small problem with the crown done by the NY dentist. I can't know if this problem had only just appeared and the NY dentist would have found it and corrected it on her own, or if she was aware of it and took no action. When I reported the problem in NY, the dentist immediately offered to replace the crown at no charge, which she subsequently did.

So in my very limited experience the dentist at Asavanant outperformed a New York Park Avenue dentist. As you would expect at the time the Park Avenue dentist charged about $1300 for a crown while Asavanant was charging around $250 for a CEREC filling. These two services are priced comparably in New York.

My view is that the quality of medical care in the US is vastly overrated, particularly once you exclude the top quality which is not available to the middle class. The average quality in Thailand may be lower, but service at least as good is available if you can find it.

Well you should really stop going to the butcher on the way home from soi Nana...

Been specifically going to my dentist here in Bangkok for going on 5 years now, this gentleman has the Midas touch...

Have had 2 root canals, 2 crowns and 2 wisdom teeth removed in that time and nothing more than a local anaesthetic was applied. Pain? What pain, I've seen results back home in farangland where the above results in days or weeks off on medical leave due to pain. I was in and out in an hour...

Cost? Even with private health insurance back home I'd still save money by doing it here!

I have lived here for decades and I have used all manner of dentists. From the very expensive clinics that service wealthy Thais and expats to the one-chair shops you see in every neighbourhood.

I know what you want.

Ok Catherine, here's a good dentist.

Go to the Amarin Center at BTS Chidlom

On the third or fourth floor you will find a consortium of University trained dentists who speak passable English. They are past the music shop, directly over the s

Skytrain walkway entrance to the building (not the Main Street-level entrance near Starbucks.

I have fallen asleep in Dr Suphadet's chair on several occasions.

They are competant. Their rates are reasonable. They are caring. They respect you. They don't overcharge.

You will be pleased.

Just go to Amarin track down the office make an appointment and fall asleep in his chair.

This must be the oral dental centre? I have been there a few times they are very good and do not do work that is not needed, unlike some. Now I go to Mahinol Uni near Victory monument as it's a bit cheaper but the service is more the mass market , there are as many as 40 dentists there. One place I would never go again is the bangkok dental hospital on Sukumvit 49, got very overcharged there. Root canal at mahinol was 4.5k

I highly recommend Dr. Sunil Dental Clinic in Bangkok, Thailand. This place is absolutely amazing, everyone, from the reception area to the assistants and the doctors themselves are so nice, and you almost feel like you are home when you are there. They are professional and delicate.
My 14 year old son had to go through a root canal and 4 fillings two months ago, he did not complain about pain even once. I was amazed!!!

Thantakit. I prefer their dentists coz they're fluent in English, compassionate, gentle and really know what they're doing. It's a guarantee- they won't rip you off unlike the others who regularly upsells.

Do you have a specific name of the dentist that did your dental treatment?

I think Moonsugar is trying to raise an important point, and most posters here seem to be missing it.

In BKK in particular, there are a lot of farang oriented dental clinics and hospital dental centers, and various folks here recommend one or the other based on their experience, but often don't even mention what dentist they saw.

The problem is, those places often employ dozens of different dentists, some right out of university, others very established, some very patient oriented, others autocratic. Like any places including Thai hospitals, there's going to be a mix of the good and the not so good. The challenge is finding the good among all the others.

So if I had a wish here, it would be that posters here would STOP recommending just the names of dental clinics, and instead deal with their experiences with particular named dentists. If you've had a great experience with Dr. Somchai over many years, just telling people to visit XXXXX Clinic where dozens of dentists work (without being specific as to the dentist) really isn't being very useful.

seems like I need a crown made, part of a tooth chipped off. The Amarin Plaza dentists sound interesting. Just looked up their website - crown 15 to 20k. The guys in Soi 49 do not publish their prices - so just for comparison, what is the going rate for a crown?

Just back from my local dentist here in Pattaya. Very modern clinic and the dentist lady makes a quite professional appearance. She fixed the problem with some ceramic filling that came 1,000 Baht.If it doses't work then a crown is due. She quoted me 7,000 for it. There will be some more work to do (getting the old filling out...), but the total damage will be below 10,000.

from what I can gather, the pricing of crowns usually has a range depending on what material is used -- metal, porcelain, gold, etc. And that choice depending on the type of tooth (biting molar vs other) and whether it's a visible or back tooth.

I didn't get a crown estimate from Bangkok Dental Hospital at the end of last year, but I did get an implant estimate, which for a single tooth implant was (to me) a shocking 120,000 baht, using what they said was the best/preferred implant device. Plus an additional 30-60K if a bone graft was required.

I did get a crown estimate from Bangkok Smile Clinic in Asoke, where they offered 10K, 15K, 17K or 19K depending on the crown material used.

For the implant, Bangkok Smile's estimate was broken out differently, but basically was about 85,000 for an implant topped with a crown, plus an extra 40-50K if a bone graft was required. Five year guarantee on implants, two year guarantee on crowns.

Thantakit also seemed to be in the 10-20 range for crowns, depending on the material used.

Dr. Sunil's Clinic quoted about 95,000 for an implant including the crown, plus an additional 15-25K if a bone graft was required.

For crowns, they also seemed to be in the 10 to 20K range depending...

Hmmm... not finding it too easy to make a well-informed choice for a reliable well-certified dental clinic for some serious inplant work in Bangkok. I actually live in Chiangrai, but I'm in UK at the moment where a complete 3-tooth bridge fell out in August which has left me with a big gap, So need to get something done quickly. I suspect I'm probably going to need a couple of implants and a new 3-tooth bridge to go between them, so quite serious work, but needs a well-qualified and implant-experienced dentist to give a proper recommendation. Pretty sure I won't find the necessary expertise in Chiangrai so I thought I'd better choose a well recommended clinic to use in Bangkok when I pass through on the way back to Chiangrai next week. I realise implants won't be a one-day job, so I'm prepared to hang around in Bangkok for a few days until the first phase of my implanting and perhaps bonegrafting is over, but I'm not so keen on having to make loads of follow-up trips back to Bangkok. For that reason I'm also wondering whether I could get equivalent-standard to Bangkok treatment in Chiangmai instead.

From what I can see, BIDC seems to have the top place in Bangkok, but it's prices seem to be roughly 50% higher .any of the others. Plenty of good comments about it on here, and a few adverse ones too I see, so not easy for me to guess whether that extra 50% would be well-spent or not.

Another apparently highly-rated clinic is Dr.Sunil, and I've seen a couple of good comments about them on here, but those hardly amount to a substantial concensus of good experiences about them. Nevertheless I've been in email contact with the Dr.Sunil clinic and booked to go for an appointment with them as soon as I land in Bangkok next week. Since I'm still not well-informed about what my detailed dental requirements really are, and indeed am somewhat naïve about how to deal with clinics, my dilemma is going to be whether to plunge in and accept Dr.Sunil's recommended treatment immediately, or spend a lot of time going round and checking out BIDC and Chiangmai clinics in person first.

So the main purpose of my post here is to ask if there's anyone else who's had experiences of using Dr.Sunil, and if so, how did you get on?
