CNX - Acupuncture & Hypnotherapy - Pain Relief

Unfortunately, there are infinite flavors in the palette of homo sap's pains, many of them invented incessantly (often unconsciously) to forestall awareness of our inevitable death, and the agony of realizing our existential aloneness, Brother CNX37,

Share with us your suffering, the more detailed, the better, because, after all, suffering shared is suffering diluted.

Seriously, a small amount of detail about what type of pain you have, where you experience it, when you experience it, and what (you think, or know) its source is, and I am sure you will get some helpful responses here, as well as responses from our dedicated cadre of alternative health evangelists on jihad against western scientific medicine.

I had positive experiences (seven years ago) with the acupuncture clinic Mungkala, at 21 Ratchamanka Rd., for management of pain, and insomnia, following radiation treatment for cancer.

This 2012 thread on this forum discusses Chinese Acupuncture:

to your health, ~o:37;

p.s. the greatest pain-relief I found was to spray-paint all mirrors in the house I rent matte-black.

I'll second Mungkala for effective acupuncture treatment.

I don't believe acupuncture to be the Magic Bullet for all of man's ill's, but there are many problems better treated by acupuncture than Western or Ayurvedic protocols. Without proper consultation, it's difficult to know what 'might' work best for you. At the Mungkala clinic, that consultation is available.

Thank you.

By the way, the Mungkala website does not open.

About 5 years ago, I was diagnosed with throat cancer (stage 4 - base of tongue). I went to Suandok for radiotherapy (the only place in town that provides this service). I also contacted CNX Ram - Dr Rattiya - the oncologist. I had one session of chemo - unsuitable. Then, 35-40 sessions of radiotherapy. I am now in remission. However, the after-effects of radiotherapy are terrible! If I had been forewarned of such, I would not have proceeded with radiotherapy.

In summary, I suffer from dry mouth (quite common). 50% of my teeth have fallen out. The dentists will not extract teeth until I undergo hyperbaric chamber treatment. I went to 2 hospitals in BKK. I was advised that hyperbaric would provide little assistance - a big dilemna! I have a sore mouth, sore gums, sore teeth & sore throat. It is that bad that my total diet comprises vegetable soup only. Dry mouth is the major problem & may be the cause of the other pain. TOPS is during well out of it as I consume 9-12 bowls per day @ B55/bowl. I love hot & spicy food but now that is a No No! I was on morphine for a reasoable time but the effects wore off. I have now ceased this aid.

I emailed a number of acupuncture providers in CNX - only one reply so far. They are AHAC (Asian Healing Arts Center). They recommend a minimum of 3 sessions of 1 hour - total fees B1500. I also contacted Dr Sheng Zhong Wang & Mungkala. I had tremendous success with acupuncture in order to cease smoking - 33 years ago. Three sessions & I was free! In CNX, I consulted re Ayurveda. I was not impressed & the fees were quite painful. This has put me off totally.

Over to you.

My wife and I visited Mungkala clinic a couple months ago based the many favorable opinions here on TV.

We both received deplorable treatment.

The head lady doctor greeted us and initially gave a general impression of professionalism. Then a 'nurse' escorted us to a room and asked a single general question - "Where's your pain?", then asked us to pay for our treatment in advance - Bt500 each. We were then told to wait face down on the tables, for 15~20 minutes, before someone came in - yet another 'nurse', and without saying a word she just started sticking needles in us. We then were told to wait and 30 minutes later she came in a removed the needles and told us to get dressed. So we waited in the room expecting the lady doctor to come in, or anyone, for that matter. Finally we went outside the room and nobody paid any attention to us, we wandered around the waiting area hoping someone would say something, but it was as if we were invisible. It wasn't super busy either, someone could have stepped up to say something. No one even tried to up-sell us on the many herbal medicine products they were also selling, which we had expected they would do before they would let us leave. The lady doctor was speaking to someone else, but saw us, though did not even acknowledge us. So we just left. BTW, we received absolutely no relief from the "treatment" given there. The entire experience was so bad my wife and I still joke about it today as probably the single worst customer service experience we've ever received in Chiang Mai - and we've lived here for many years - we've had our fair share of them.

I've had acupuncture countless times (elsewhere) and I believe I have a good understanding of the process. When you find a good practitioner, it absolutely DOES make a positive difference. I've had bad treatment elsewhere too. I honestly believe I can fairly make the distinction. This is only my opinion, but my advice to anyone visiting Mungkala clinic is don't expect any relief, unless that is, you really need your wallet to lose some weight, in which case they offer a great service.

Finally, we were kinda so bummed out after Mungkala that we gave up on seeking acupuncture in CM for the time being. I hope someone can recommend a good one too.

Thank you Members

I hear conflicting reports re Mungkala!

Other recommendations?

There is a Chinese Dr. in the Wororot Market area that has had mixed reviews. Others might know more.

This is what Rajavej Hospital say about their acupuncturist.

Dr Srirath Chaiyaphruk is our Acupuncturist.

He qualified as an MD at Chiang Mai University in 1977, and in 1990 obtained the Certificate of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture from Shanghai University.

In 2008 Dr Srirath obtained the Certificate in Acupuncture (Advanced Course) at Shanghai University, and in 2011 the equivalent from Chiang Mai University.

Appointments cost 750b for the first visit and 600b each for subsequent visits. A course comprising a minimum of 3 visits is strongly recommended.

Dr Srirath is available from 9.00am to 12 noon on Saturdays, and from 4.00pm to 7.00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Please call 053 801999 ext 177, or come in to the Information counter and register for an appointment. Please bring your passport so a copy can be taken for your medical records.

Good luck, hope you find relief somewhere.
