Expressways in Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

It said in the Bangkok Post today that it's illegal to ride motorcycles on expressways in Thailand - which I didn't know -- but then again, I drive a car. Does Chiang Mai have any expressways? The only one I can think of is the big motorway to Lampang (highway 11?) from Chiang Mai. Is this an expressway? And what IS an expressway in Thailand anyway? Is it different from a Super Highway?

I think that means the (usually elevated) toll roads rather than open motorways, which as you can probably see are full of bikes. I believe all of these are in or around Bangkok.

Chiang Mai has 'expressways' (Superhighway/Inner (middle) ring road) but not of the Bangkok elevated, tolled kind with no lights. Bikes can go anywhere in CM.
