Scott, is it OK to keep this new thread in the Teaching in Thailand forum? It would probably get more exposure than placing it in the Myanmar forum and I'm sure will be of interest to many teachers working in Thailand.

An international school in Yangon is seeking a year 4 homeroom teacher, for immediate start or to commence from August 2014.

The homeroom teacher will teach all non-specialist subjects to a small (16 students) class of 8-9 year olds, following the UK National Curriculum at Key stage 2.

Subjects taught are English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Design Technology, PSHE, Library Studies.

The school is seeking male or female applicants, with no upper age restriction. Applicants should have previous homeroom experience, as well as experience of teaching the UK National Curriculum.

A degree qualification is required, but need not be a B.Ed. Other relevant qualifications could be a PGCE or PGCEi, as well as relevant CPD courses, such as Early Learning. But enthusiasm and professionalism are also major characteristics that are sought.

This is not an ESL or TEFL vacancy.

The expected salary is $2,100, plus $700 accommodation grant per month. Tax rate is 5%. Medical insurance and visa-run fees are covered.

If this vacancy sounds of interest, please PM me and I'll send you the email address of the school recruiter.

Yangon is a very interesting place to work, but applicants should also be aware that living in Yangon cannot really be described as a 'luxury' posting. The city lacks decent hospitals and there is a lack of infrastructure, such as reliable electricity supply, international banking, international phone calls/SMS and fast internet.

But it is a great city for the adventurous!

Oh, NES teachers only please.

Actually - Scott, can you move it over to the Myanmar forum?

This post has been up for a couple of days and it has a healthy 192 views. But not a single person has PMed me for further details.

I find this very surprising, and perhaps rather telling about the type of teacher who views the ThaiVisa teaching forum. This vacancy offers about 90,000 baht, with no requirement for WP or passing culture tests or for having a teacher's licence etc. The tax is way below what would be deducted in Thailand.

Are there no homeroom teachers on this forum? I know this job is not in Thailand, but Yangon is only 90 minutes from BKK by AirAsia.

Simon

Air asia must use slow aircraft. NOK only takes 45 minutes.

Hope you find someone.

Actually, the flight is 45+30 minutes = 75 minutes

Myanmar time is 30 minutes behind Thai time...

You neglected to say what school the opening is with. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's unsurprising that there hasn't been any response.

Simon,

If you haven't already - perhaps try a posting the ad on one of those other sites I discussed with you by PM the other week - might have some luck there. (eg YEC on google groups)

cheers

No, I left the school name off the information on purpose - interested persons can PM me for that detail.

Having taught in Myanmar since 2012, I have heard nothing particularly 'bad' about the school in question, certainly far less than for some other schools :)

Hi Simon, are you the same Simon who worked at A..B last year????

I'm the aussie dude with the blond hair, remember ???

Anyway, I'm interested in the job you mention, mostly because of salary, as you know A.L.. don.t pay much of an accomodation allowence, & my apt. has been sold & I have to start looking for for a new place soon, now the market is becomming very very expensive..

I'm interested in more details if the position hasn't been taken..

cheers

Pete
