She was speaking after the third appeal in 24 hours for O-negative blood was made.

PHUKET: The Phuket blood bank – the Provincial Blood Centre (PBC) – is completely out of supplies of any kind of blood, Pornthip Rattajak, head of the PBC, told The Phuket News today.

The first appeal, for blood for a Norwegian man sick in the Bangkok Hospital Phuket, was met by donations, but two women in the same hospital also require a unit each of the same blood.

A staff member of the hospital said that one woman, aged 52, has been waiting for two days for blood, and her haematocrit level – the ratio of red cells to blood volume – has dropped from 26 to 24 per cent in that time. The normal level is around 40 per cent for women.

Ms Pornthip called for donations of any kind of blood. Would-be donors can call her at 076-251178 ext 2.

They can't move blood bags from Bangkok to Phuket in 2 days? It takes what ...2 hours with the plane?

What is going on with blood services in Thailand,

I have O- blood and I'm happy to donate it but as I've found out that only giving at main RedCross in Bkk can it be sent to any province.

If it's needed any quicker I'm prepared to help.

Also no register exists, so ppl can contact Doners.

so basically, no thais give blood... but you can see their selfishness when an ambulance is stuck in traffic and noone gives way

i wish i could give blood, but am on warfarin and they say i am too old.

On Samui the Rotary club organised a database of those farang willing to donate blood, their blood groups and contact details. Each hospital was provided with this for emergencies. Maybe an idea for something similar to be organised in Phuket ? thumbsup.gif

"There is no emergency or crisis in Thailand until it happens."

No blood in a blood bank!!!

That simple concept leaves one yet again completely beggared over this country and its culture.

Simply beggared!

Wouldn't take mine. All I got were blank stares from the staff. Too old, despite donating about 150 times elsewhere..

Isn't there a large amount of ridiculous rules preventing falangs from donating?

I could swear I read an article about it a week or so ago...

No every time iv been to the Red Cross (BKK) is full to the brim of Kind hearted Thai's .

A friend of mine is being pestered for blood and has decided not to give because there is no incentive. This guy has certificates from royalty for giving blood in the past and has the negative group that everyone needs for emergencies. There is a lot of short sightedness going on towards the people that want to be "useful" in [this] society. If the powers that be don't care... it should be on their heads. Not those of rare blood groups or others that could contribute in a meaningful way.

Instead of asking 500 THB from tourists at airports, can you not ask them to donate blood (at arrival/departure) or pay 500 THB???

Just thinking... whistling.gif
