Need a Real Electrician

Featured Replies

I have a bedroom the the electric (lights and ceiling fan) have never worked since the house was built. The builder has sent some people over from time to time but they always leave me with the same problem. More than 1 year.

I am a fair electrician myself but physically unable to climb into the attic/garrett.

The problem is that the breaker will pop whether anything is turned on or not. The amount of time it takes to pop does not seem the change whether anything is on or not but here's the kick. The amount of time it takes for the breaker to pop does change. The last time the supposed electricians were here it was around 1/2 hour. 2 weeks ago I checked it it popped immediately. Yesterday it took a couple of seconds. This is rather baffling to me.

When it was1/2 hour to pop I bought a clamp on ammeter to check all the wiring at the switches and sockets. When I got it home to use it, the breaker popped immediately.

Anyhow I am interested in paying a REAL electrician to fix this as my girls will be back here for Songkran and it would be nice if they could use their rooms. There are 4 recessed lights and a ceiling fan with a light. All wiring should be easy to get to but I am not able to get there.

I am located at the west end of Nong Bua Lamphu Province about 7 km from Loei province on highway 210, so smeone from Loei or Nong Bua Lamphu would be best.

A simple insulation resistance test is all that is required, a real electrician will find in less than 1 hour.

Have you tried another MCB?

Disconnect the fan from the circuit. See if it holds in, if not, take out all lamps.

Still not holding, you will need to rewire.

Yes, the breaker has been replaced. I can remove bulbs but I think they did that already. The fan I cannot get to, hence my need to hire an electrician.

Most ceiling fans have a cover against the ceiling that is easily loosened, which you can then drop and see the wires to the fan.

Does the wire to the tripping breaker get warm?

When you find the problem, I'd bet gecko shit/eggs have something to do with it.

Aside from the fact I said is has been doing this since the house was built, did you catch the fact that it pops immediately? Pretty difficult for it to heat up in that amount of time.

If you are not a real electrician, I'd appreciate if you would keep your comments to yourself.

To repeat myself, I am looking for an electrician I can hire, not hints or clues. As stated I am a pretty fair electrician myself but cannot climb up to check things myself.
