Water Pump Repair

After speaking to my misses it seems the water pump has developed a leak at the bottom of the cylinder.

Just wondering if it is possible to repair. Or buy a new cylinder? Instead of a whole new pump.

Unless you know how to repair them, your need to disconnect it from the pipes and take it for repair. Most large shops that sell pumps have repair shops.

BTW im in the UK at present.

Yes the misses has had it disconnected, and the 'man' has taken it to a shop who said cannot repair.

I am thinking as small weld would do the trick? Or is the metal too fragile to take a weld?

Most of the modern tanks have a rubber bladder, if it's leaking a new tank is the only fix, if a tank is not available, new pump :(

Most repair shops can order new tanks. I have a 16 year old ITC that is on its third tank, bladder type. I have a Mitsubishi WP-155 that's on it's secnd, non bladder type. I ordered a new one, 1200 baht, they sent the wrong one so I cut off the bottom, made a new one and welded it on. Still working fine 5 years later.

Weld will soon leak, in our experience. We did it twice. I suppose if they could get it from the inside. Seems likes you could drill a smooth hole in the leak (if the metal is not rusted), and insert a reversed umbrella plug (insert in the hole and then it flattens against the inner surface when withdrawn) device, with epoxy.

I will be reading this forum closely.

A bladder bag may work?

I cut the entire bottom off mine as I said in post #7 and made a new one and welded it on. That was 5 years ago and it's still running with no kleaks. I didn't try to weld just the leaking area as I expected that the entire bottom was rusting and getting very thin so that's why I cut the entire bottom off. I actually cut the ring of the pump about 20mm up from the bottom and made a new ring and bottom and welded the ring back on. The old rind was corrored in many places where it was connected to the bottom plate and would have just started leaking in anothe place if i had just tried to weld the leaking area.

The tank (captive air tank) can be placed anywhere close to the pump on the pressure side. If installing inline from the pump, use unions to allow for easy replacement, and put a one way check valve inline to stop water under pressure flowing back toward pump. You can then make a box to fit over the pump and cut down on the noise it makes when cycling.

Most every province has a genuine water pump specialist shop that does high volume water pump installations and repairs. Google might help the OP. The same water pump shop that installs and repairs water pumps at government buildings, hospitals, sports stadiums, hotels will be worth consideration. I've had a water pump shop from Buriram come to our small town for the design, installation and repairs, both during the warranty period and after the warranty period on 4 water pumps. Welding the tank is possible and inexpensive on a Mitsubishi Water pump. Hitachi and Mitsubishi genuine water pump tanks and parts are readily available to the larger independent dealers who stock and repair hundreds of water pumps. Parts for those two brands of water pumps from a water pump specialist will not be high. You can tell you are at the "water pump specialist" of your province if they offer a Free loaner water pump, if they have to take your water pump from your home back to the shop for repairs. The Thai business owners, hospitals, etc.. would not accept otherwise. It's been my observation that even "Bangkok Building Contractors" who land the contract to build a huge new hotel, sports stadium, multiple story Government Building or larger hospital building in Buriram province will sub out the actual water pump purchase and installation contract to a Buriram water pump shop that has the staff with the proper training to install the pumps and maintain the pumps properly for the general contractor. Pattaya must have that sort of family owned water pump shop that will best serve the OP.

There is a large pump house supply place on Naklua just a little bit down from the bus terminal. The shop on the left is a lawn mower tool shop. The pump place isn't huge in area but has just about every pump available their & the do repairs fairly cheap.

Sorry never use google maps but you really can't miss it there is only one shop that carries 25 types of pumps & a tool shop next door. Maybe 12 a block from the bus terminal on the same side.

Beardog, I think you are confused now, The shop you have in mind is half way between the bus terminal and Sukhumvit. The soi beside the shop ends on the parking lot of Bangkok hospital.
