PATTAYA:--On Tuesday afternoon efforts to clear a field of dead grass by burning the remains led to a massive fire at a Bed Production Facility in East Pattaya. No injuries or deaths were reported but damage was estimated at 1 Million Baht.

Nine Fire Engines responded to the incident which took more than 1 hour to bring under control. The fire began in a field next to the TT&G Fibre Company in the Kao Mai Gaew area and due to high winds it quickly spread to the factory which recycles coconut skins to produce the beds.

Shocker - uncontrolled fires for clearing fields? Needs to happen more and maybe make some people wise up.

Couldnt get the fire under control, because of high winds! But the high winds were no concern to the people burning the grass! Another Darwin award!

I hope they were not selling the mattresses with fire retardant labels attached...

Fire + high winds + no burn permit system + poor public safety education = disaster in any country. I'm glad no one was hurt or died.

Som nam na....!

As long as they let people have open fires I don't have any sympathy when it goes wrong

I hope they were not selling the mattresses with fire retardant labels attached...

The labels all survived.
