Potjaman seeks fortune telling in Myanmar

BANGKOK: -- The former wife of ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra paid a visit to one of Burma's most famous astrologers during a recent trip to the country, Irrawaddy Magazine reported on Friday.

Earlier this month Potjaman Na Pombejra, who was reportedly visiting Myanmar with Thaksin, went to see Rangoon-based astrologer San Zarni Bo to seek advice for her former husband's wishes to return to Thailand and to ask about his business concessions in Burma. The couple divorced in 2008 after more than three decades of marriage.

The political situation is not good in Thailand, so they wanted to do some "yadaya" for internal peace and Thaksin's return to the country, a source close to the matter told The Irrawaddy on Friday. Yadaya is a form of magic practiced in Burma to ward off evil spirits and weaken one's enemies. "She also asked about their oil-related business concessions in Burma's Tanintharyi [Tenasserim] Division."

The source said Thaksin and Potjaman stopped at Kaba Aye Pagoda (World Peace Pagoda) during their trip to promote peace in Thailand. The pagoda seemed to be a perfect place for the 66-year-old ex-prime minister to perform the yadaya numerological rituals, as the Sixth Buddhist Council was once held there, the magazine said.

Thaksin also visited Burma last April over the Buddhist New Year, meeting with the commander in chief of Burma's armed forces, Gen Min Aung Hlaing, it reported.

Thaksin holds property in Dawei, the southernmost town in Tenasserim Division, where a special economic zone is planned and the multimillion-dollar Dawei deep-sea port project is under construction.

Thaksin’s latest visit to Burma was reported last week with photos showed him at a temple taking part in a merit-making ceremony. His former wife was not in the photos.

Unconfirmed reports said he was visiting to attend a supernatural ceremony in Mandalay to fight back against two leaders of the People's Democratic Reform Committee, Suthep Thaugsuban and Luang Pu Buddha Issara, who have undertaken a campaign to unseat his sister, caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Meanwhile a Kaba Aye Pagoda official said he was not aware of Thaksin's presence at the pagoda because the ex-prime minister had not made an official visit.

"Probably, he slipped into the pagoda among other visitors, we don't know," Tun Win, a trustee member, told The Irrawaddy.

This is not the first time Thaksin has sought astrological advice from a soothsayer. According to an AFP report last year, he went to see another famous Burmese astrologer, ET, before he was ousted in a 2006 coup. At the time he was working in the telecommunications industry and wanted to ask about his prospects for power.

She aked him What will my future be?

Don't blame Thaksin and his wife, they only wanted to ask the astrologer as to when the rice farmers will be paid.

They seem very much concerned about the issue.

Third world, and always will be!

They don't seem too big on "patient" confidentiality there!

Sometimes I wonder if the Rice Scheme debacle came from Thaksin asking an astrologer, from what he said in some interviews he was counting in some natural catastrophe to drive up the prices of rice, was that a prediction from one of those charlatans?

The next thing we will hear is Yingluck visiting the astrologer to inquire as to the date she will be ousted.

But, I can give her the answer: VERY SOON

This article makes it sound like he is forced to stay out of Thailand. He isn't. He can return when ever he likes.

What his ex - wife is really saying is she wants his corruption charges to go away so can come home a free man.

Criminals do not make official visits, they slip in unnoticed amongst the normal punters.

Best my thoughts on the efficacy of "supernatural ceremonies" remain private.

Although this magic and fortune telling has nothing to do with Buddhism, it does explain why PT has been pushing the "Dawei Project" so strongly.

As soon as the Shin-Clan will give up on power and politics Thailand will be fine.

"She also asked about their oil-related business concessions in Burma's Tanintharyi [Tenasserim] Division."

The whole familiy is just about power and money...she could have asked where the money for the rice farmers went. But also she knows that answer already, me thinks bah.gif

He said........................ "Hubble, bubble, toil and trouble for the Shin clan".facepalm.gif

Mention in the article of oil concessions & owning land at Dawei IMO is extremely damning & explains why PTP have been pushing this project although this would not be the first time government insiders have done similar, in fact probably rife in all previous governments.

Let us remember as we read the Latest from THE NATION ...

robe changing ceremony

erawan shrine attack

the dems have a documented history in creating mystical conspiracy theories in attempts to descredit biggrin.png Not that both sides dont deal in astrologyy and numerology

The 2006 coup had to take place in an auspicious juncture in space and time so astrologers were consulted by ...military and dem/royal backers had to get it right ...

Lord it is going to be a long time to pre season - Go Hawks!

Play with fire and you'll get burnt by fire, play with the supernatural and you know what happened the last time......

So Thaksin holds property in Dawei while the Thai government is investing and pushing for that gigantic infrastructure project. Is anyone surprised? Similar to when the Thai government invested in the road towards Koh Kong and Cambodia. Or giving government loans to Burma to buy iPstar services.

He is in self imposed exile which is really just a hi-so way of saying he's on the run. Of course he could return any time... I mean, does anyone seriously think he'd be arrested if he did? The police won't even arrest Suthep so they're hardly going to arrest their boss.

ET to Thaksin - don't go home.

Witchcraft, soothsayers, medicine men, and voodoo. This is Thailand.

Why not, do a rain dance, make a voodoo doll of Suthep, stick a bone through her nose and have a female circumcision at the same time.

As Thaksin has been seeking advice since 2006 - with a track record like that - you'd think he'd give Kreskin a chance.

'he went to see another famous Burmese astrologer, ET,'

Why ET? Because Thaksin wants to go home? laugh.png

Gawd, you couldn't make this superstitious third-world stuff and nonsense up, could you ...? cheesy.gif

The number of whichever official car YL used was always a favourite but not so much now.

Stuck in her secure office she's been heard singing " Don't Get Around Much Anymore ".

How appropriate. Some charlatans go to get some advice from some charlatans.

I'm missing the comments from the regular government/PTP/red apologists.
