I am making some home improvements and just removed the security grills on the windows which are around 12 years old and a little rusty.

Does anyone know of anywhere on Samui I can take them to have them sandblasted?

Have tried wire brushing but too many nooks & crannies to clean properly by hand.

Also, is there anything similar to 'Hammerite' anti rust paint available here?

Somebody mentioned Hammerite a while back but I don't recall where they managed to find it. Could always use a couple of coats of red oxide then undercoat and gloss.

Hi Yorkie.

A month back I was tying to find powder coating on Samui (there aint none) and so sandblasting went hand in hand with this.

As far as I could tell there isn't anything. But I might well be wrong here - I'd really like to find out.

I'm sending you a PM about this!

Cheers,

R

There was a reply from Ignis saying it was available in HomePro...if not in stock maybe they can order it in?

I bought in Home Pro.......... No idea if you have one there

Thanks for all the helpful answers. Rob, good luck and thanks for the offer but need to sort the problem now.

With the help of my wife and family, they have wire brushed and sandpapered all the grills extremely well and now ready for painting.

I have looked in Home Pro and there is a rust treatment paint which looks good. When you buy, there are two cans which you mix together prior to painting, 0.75 litre and 3 litre cans available, way to go I think. Just have to confirm the colour, don't think there's a choice.

Next question, does anyone know of a re-uphosterer preferably Chaweng/ Bophut area? I have a settee covered in some sort of PVC/plastic which is a mess. Can it be re-upholstered or if not will take to the tip?

In answer to your re covering, a bit off your choice of area, but the foam shop in Maenam, seems to do a lot of that... just before Maenam resort road, after Santi Buri Resort, opposite the big bill board sign....

Good guys to deal with! thumbsup.gif

You might want to check the frame out before you pay to get it upholstered mate. I was going to get my old sofa done and figured I'd have a look inside beforehand by turning it upside down and removing the hessian type material which would have to be removed in any case. The wood was thin and mostly warped and the jointed were loose. Quite a bit of work would have been needed to shore up the frame so I went down to see my trusted friend Nok to ask her opinion. Throw it out she said. She then offered me a white leather one that she had in her bar for a while before getting a pool table. Next day she loaded it into her pickup and brought it around with a couple of friends. They took out the old one and replaced it with the leather one and wouldn't take any money for the sofa or the work involved.

Yeh, your probably right, it's over 10 years old anyway.

10 years would suggest to me that it was a good quality sofa rather than the usual ones you see which wouldn't last 10 years even if never used. If the frame IS still in good order on your sofa or only need the odd screw here and there then it could well be worth upholstering. The old fella used to fix up the family 3 piece when I was a kid and I would help him out doing it. In the end he managed to get 25 years out of it. Sold it for 50 quid via the local rag when they moved house as it was too big and there was only him and my mother in the house.
