The Pheu Thai Party has accused the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) of working on a four-step plan to overthrow the caretaker Yingluck Shinawatra administration by mid-April.

But Anusorn Iamsa-ard, deputy spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party, warned that such a move would create a political vacuum - and lead to a violent confrontation between supporters of both sides.

The four steps are: removing Yingluck via an impeachment over alleged corruption so her seat will be vacant; removing all cabinet members by implicating them in corruption in order to prevent anyone stepping up to replace Yingluck; petitioning for the nullification of the February 2 election if a new government cannot be formed 30 days after the election date as stipulated by law; and banning of 308 MPs and senators who supported a bid to amend the charter.

Anusorn said PDRC chief Suthep Thaugsuban had referred to the 'shaking of the mango tree so the fruit will fall down' theory. But he said Suthep risked uprooting the whole tree as they could not govern the country if the government was ousted through such means, because people, who hold the sovereign power, would not accept it.

He warned PDRC supporters to be mindful not to burn the whole country down as a result.

Meanwhile, the red-shirt movement will meet today. Some 4,000 leaders from around the nation are due to gather in Nakhon Ratchasima and come up with a plan to counter the PDRC's attempt to dislodge the Yingluck administration.

Worachai Hema, a former Pheu Thai MP and red-shirt leader, also lashed out at the Civil Court, saying its recent ruling to forbid the government from dispersing PDRC protesters despite the imposition of an emergency decree risked an armed confrontation between both sides.

He asked if supporters of the PDRC wanted to see Thailand be split like the two Koreas, or a divided Vietnam during the Cold War.

Worachai claimed as many as a million red shirts were ready to descend on Bangkok but would be unarmed - and wanted to know if they would be killed like in 2010.

PDRC spokesman Akanat Promphan denied that the protest movement had any such plan to oust the Yingluck administration. He said such talk was just created by Pheu Thai Party in order to try to mobilise red shirts to defend them and the 'Thaksin Shinawatra regime'.

He said what the PDRC was doing now was an attempt to recall power from a tyrannical administration, which is corrupt.

Akanat said the PDRC had a two-step plan: after the Thaksin regime is overthrown and power returned to the people, it would launch a national reform process and allow everyone to equally participate.

Akanat called on red shirts to join the PDRC in ousting the government and insisted that PDRC was not fighting against red shirts - only the Thaksin regime. He said the red-shirt movement had been exploited by the Thaksin regime just like rice farmers.

The PDRC, he said, would continue to put pressure on businesses tied to the Shinawatra family, as well as those that support the regime. He called on people to stop using phone services from a company linked to Thaksin and noted that most Southerners have already made the switch.

That is exactly what the Shinawatra elite are scared of.

Even though Yingluck has practically abandoned the 'traditional' UDD supporters in terms of policy, by concentrating on trying to 'buy' the slightly more affluent rice farmers and car buyers, the desperate attempts to portray the rice scheme as some kind of success and the PDRC as the big bad bogeyman, are last ditch attempts to hold on to the faithful after their apparent lack of enthusiasm in voting Pheu Thai in to office again.

The winner in these bloody overthrow movements is usually somebody or some group behind the scenes who you will never see, but the losers are plain to see because they are just about everybody else in the nation. I supported the anti-Amnesty bill massprotest in late November, and I was happy to see 300k~ [according to some sources, but hard to be exact] people protesting peacefully for the Amnesty bill to be cremated and the ashes scattered far away.

Back then there was no talk of overthrow movements, kidnapping the PM and her family, popcorn-at-the-ready, highly suspicious unelected corporatocracy Assembly rule. I was totally behind the peaceful massprotest against the Amnesty bill, but I totally reject the overthrow-at-any-cost madness that followed it.

Steps 1, 2 and 3 I totally agree with. Step 4 would be an enormous error of judgement and will break the back of the nation IMO.

Concurrent activity during steps 2 and 3 must see reform where those charged with corruption from both sides are disqualified from politics together with any family members or other known associates complicit in the corruption. This will pave the way for new blood to enter politics and I pray for the emergence of a new party who can embrace the non-militants from both sides.

Wasn't it Worachai's amnestyt bill that set the whole thing in motion? Honestly these guys are such hypocrits. Problem with Peua Thai is they believe their own hype. They are in a state of denial that they have done anything wrong. Far as they are concerned they won an election, they are darlings of the people, and any misstep is a dastardly opposition seeking to overthrow them.

Truth is, there is plenty of evidence to disband them alone for being a proxy. It hasn't been done because the masses will see it as a judicial coup. Now that the country is not seeing their rice money, they will more willingly accept that Yingluck being 'removed' after being charged for corruption in the scheme, is realistic.

Given what we've seen from a PT govt over two years, and all the holes they've dug for themselves, it's no wonder the opposition are putting them under pressure when the opportunity is at it's best. The present PT blank cheque governing needs to totally eradicated, once that's done they can return as an elected govt accountable to the law.

All this talk about a return to a tyrannical dictatorship govt that is appointed is nonsense, nothing could be more tyrannical than what we've lately seen under Yigluck the puppet.

Half of these "4 points" are due to self inflicted wounds by the PTP - dissolving parliament for instance, or by their own conflicts with the constitutional court, nothing to do with the PDRC.

As soon as they took the decision to dissolve parliament - Suthep went to plan B, and the real four points are:

1) Disrupt the elections to make sure the quorum of 95% cannot be filled

2) The constitution mandates that the parliament has to sit in quorum within 30 days - i.e. by 1st March

3) The parliament must then elect a Prime Minister within 30 days - i.e. by 1st April, otherwise it loses its caretaker status

4) On April 2nd the Constitutional Court finds that the constitution has not been followed and so the caretaker government is annulled and a royally appointed PM and administration has to serve per interim until new elections are held or a quorum has been reached.

As of 1st March Suthep will agitate that the caretaker government no longer ha legal authority, but the real turning point is 1st April if sufficient elections have not been held.

Any royally appointed interim administration may press for a reform plan, and a fundamental financial review before a new round of national elections.

That is what the PTP are now running scared of

The Red Shirts ran from the students. I really doubt they'll want to stand and fight grown-ups, let alone the military.

Your ilk love to bleat on about breaking up the country, but it wouldn't be such a bad thing for Bangkok. Bangkok could spend their tax money on improving their infrastructure, instead of sending it to a social sink-hole in the north.

And Bangkok could certainly buy rice cheaper from India and Vietnam that what Yingluck is "paying" for it now.

Be interesting to see how supportive of the right to protest in the Courts are when they are shut down by the Pro Gov Supporters.

Be hard for the Army to disperse the Reds next time if they have to come out against a coup, judicial or otherwise.

The fascinating thing about the Pheu Thai spokesman's statement is that all four of the points that he points out - each and every one of them - is completely valid, legal, and constitutional :

1. If Yingluck is indicted on corruption by the NACC over the rice scandal, she would be removed from office. That's constitutional.

2. If cabinet ministers are indicted on corruption by the NACC over the rice scandal, they would be removed from office. That's constitutional.

3. Indeed, it is stipulated by law that a government must be formed 30 days after an election. As there will be no government formed by March 4, the government will be removed from office. That is constitutional.

4. If the Constitutional Court deems that the actions of 308 MPs and Senators to amend the constitution was unconstitutional, they will be removed from office. That is also constitutional.

So the real question is - why has it taken Pheu Thai so long to realize all this ?

Akanat Promphan can never forget about his family's stature, but he's quite busy enough maintaining his own.

The 23-year-old Oxford graduate has jumped into politics as a member of the Prime Minister's Office and secretary to Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban.

Akanat is the middle child of Srisakul Promphan and Porntep Techapaibul. After they divorced, his mother became Suthep's common-law wife.

Though he earned a master's degree in engineering, economics and management at Oxford, Akanat insists he's "not smart".

"But I am hard-working, patient and determined. When I decided to try and get into good universities, I set out to make good grades.

"I used to participate in all kinds of activities in high school, but in my last three years I stopped and focused only on my preparations for getting into Oxford."

He originally planned to do an internship in Britain after graduation, but decided instead to help his mother's condominium business in Lat Phrao.

Within a few months the chance arose for him to join the inner ring of politics, and being in politics had been his dream since his early teens, when he pored over newspapers and discussed issues with his mother.

"As secretary to Deputy Prime Minister Suthep, I look after his schedule," Akanat says. "He teaches young people like me, showing us how 'real' the work is. I attend the meetings and see how the decisions are put into practice.

"Suthep is very serious about his work. He's a good example for the younger generation."

Four step plan today, tomorrow another four step plan, then we will move on to another larger 8 step plan. Reforms, reforms, and reforms. At least the police know that changes are needed, now who is going to decide what gets changed and how. Try working on a constitution that guarantees all an equal chance, an education system the instills some criticle thinking, and mutual respect to all....
