Beloved because it has a qwerty keyboard. 3 years old. Suddenly the back gets very hot and it doesn´t charge up.

1. IMPORTANT: was sloppy with backing up. I guess copying the hard disk to my pc is the quickest and could work with the remaining charge?

2. Heat implies worn battery or internal charger defect? The latter probably hard to repair here.

Is it a user removable battery? If so, go to any phone repair shop and ask them to try a new battery in. If it works, pay for it and if it doesn't work then look at other options, either have the phone repaired or replaced.

As I also have a Desire, it does have an internal battery. As he mentioned, perhaps see if you can find a replacement to test but it could be the external power adapter itself has a problem. Have you tried charging from the USB port as that would eliminate it being the power adapter?

Yes, it does have external battery, one of the main reasons why I stick to it= independence!!!

@YTWAIS

I like everything about the Desire, built , size, important to have it in my pant pocket., does everything I want. Basically, the only things I ever do, reading, storing financial news, emailing, and occasional souvenir photos. ( Here I like the selective focus and metering)

Question= with what would you replace yours?

General question= what fool easy back up to use?

I guess my idea to copy Android files simply over to my Acer is a bit naive, or not?

Actually I did just replace mine a couple of weeks ago due to running into memory and internal storage contstraints and having to regularly remove and install apps due to this. The final straw was when I got a new wifi enabled camera and the software wouldn't work on the Desire due to Android 2.2. I did root and mod it to 4.2.2 and that was a big improvement and the app ran but still the memory issue was there So after a lot of research I bought an LG G2. Would have gotten the HTC One but could not find a place that sold it here. But now that I have the LG G2 am quite happy with it.

But yeah, the HTC Desire was a lovely phone and hated having to give it up.

//edit - for backup, if you have a Google account and Cloud (free) you can backup via this. http://www.wikihow.com/Back-Up-an-Android-Phone-on-the-Google-Cloud

One of the nice things was after I got my LG G2 the first thing you do is to setup your Google Account after which it downloads and installs all the apps I had on the HTC Desire.

Given your knowledge I will probably go the same way.

But before giving up on the HTC is battery still available, where? CM?

Worthwhile waiting for a new model in spring? Don't want A much bigger phone.

Not sure where to look but just ran across some info that the Google Nexus One battery is compatible so maybe more likely a shop will one of them. These are the numbers.

  • Battery Model: BB99100 / BA S410
  • Part No. 35H00132-01M

I know what you mean about a bigger phone and I was also in the same mind set. The LG G2 is certainly bigger with the 5.2" screen but the very thin bezel makes it quite compact. It actually feels lighter due to the physical size but is just a few grams more and 3 mm thinner so fits my pocket very nicely and hardly know it's there. Biggest problem is nearly all companies are going for bigger screens and is going to be more difficult to find something in the footprint of the Desire.

Regarding battery, to to any big shopping mall, they usually have some phone accessories shops, or some IT mall is better.

But if you decide to buy a new one, any newer small size phone will be a lot better than your current phone and If you don't want a much bigger phone then it isn't worth waiting for anything.

I read up on the G2 ,sounds compelling. Question on handling= Using my wife´s Samsung what makes me nuts is the over-sensitivity of the autom tilting of the screen. The slightest movement and it tips horizontally/vertically.

Any real handling issue with the G2?

Not at all. I have to move it to within around 20-30 degrees of the position out of 90 deg, horizontal or vertical, before it switches. The home screen can of course be locked into portrait mode and suspect the Samsung can too.

Sony just launched the Xperia "Z1 Compact", don't know if it's coming to Thailand though

I forgot about the 'mini' versions of some coming out. HTC One Mini also so maybe those would better fit the OP's needs.

One can spend a life time on this subject, I will try to find the LG G2 in Chiang Mai.

My big hope is that the data on the HTC will still be accessible for transfer.

Then I must figure out how to actually execute the transfer.

The automatic transfer of apps is already most helpful!

Obviously if you can actually get your hands on one to feel it and see if the size suits you that would be the best. If not, I ordered mine from Invadeit.com. Suspect you should be able to find it here though as LG is rather popular.

As for data, need to look into how to Sync between the two. Or sync to the cloud than back to the new phone.
