Hua Hin Monthly Dream/Wave Motorbike rental recommendation?

Featured Replies

I am looking to rent a Dream/Wave/Shogun/... type non-automatic clutchless motorbike for 2 months. I am an experienced rider who has used such bikes in other provinces for 9+ years.

What is the going rate for monthly rental in Hua Hin?

Can someone recommend a reputable shop?

Thanks.

Boy and Boom, immediately behind the main temple downtown. Walk through the grounds and emerge where Binthabaht joins Poolsuk at the T-junction.

New bikes are 4000/month, older ones 3500.

Manual and auto available.

Bring your passport, they will photocopy on the spot.

I would try Alan at Noi's in soi 94 or cha am. He has a very nice wave with low kilos (125 cc too) that he normally rents for a decent rate rate. His number is 08-1015-8188. Also has a web site at http://cha-am-rentals.com.

the cheapest, bar non, is Sinatras Bar, soi 102, just over the railway line. Colin, english guy, rents them at 80b a day, or 2000 a month. cannot be beaten i think

Hi,

Just thought I would post an update to help others who are looking for Dream/Wave/Shogun/... type non-automatic clutchless motorbikes in Hua Hin.

I looked at about 6-10 different shops and it is nearly impossible to find a non-auto bike. Almost everyone rents autos.

The recommendations above were very helpful.

Alan at Noi's was very nice and they have an extremely shiny new Wave in perfect condition for 3500/month. This Wave will be excellent for all Thais and most farang, unfortunately I have very long legs and this Wave was fitted with Honda's new-fangled "improved" seat that has a sloped front and a hard ridge of cushion-less plastic hidden across the middle of the seat which is exactly where my posterior must end up in order to avoid bending my ankles painfully when using the pedals, so no matter how I rode it, it was too painful (guess Honda doesn't ever test the bikes on farangs). But it was a very nice bike and friendly staff.

Colin at Sinatra's bar is also very nice and indeed his bikes seem to be the cheapest in town, at 2000/month. Unfortunately they are all autos. There are two or three restaurants next to Sinatra's bar that also rent bikes, again all autos.

At Boy and Boom in the noisy Binthabat bar area, they have a new Wave 110 for 4500/month and a very very old Wave with non-functioning rear brake for 2000B/month (if you ask the guy with long hair) or 2500/month (if you ask the woman). Unfortunately I had such an unpleasant experience with both of them that I decided to support other businesses. The long-haired guy seemed nice, but was so interested in going somewhere else (bar?) that he skipped out when I was still looking at the bike, taking the keys with him so I could not do the rental even though other staff were there too. So I came back the next day and met one of the the most frustrated, angry women I have met in Thailand in 10 years. I spoke to her in very polite Thai but even before I opened my mouth she seemed full of rage and presumption and her Thai was also amazingly impolite for someone who simply just said "I would like to rent this Wave for 1 month." I can only imagine that she has been worn down over the years by thousands and thousands of annoying farang trying to bargain or cheat her in some way, or at least worn down by her own paranoia that they are trying to cheat her. Anyway, in her current mental state she can no longer function as a saleswoman, and I would avoid this business.

I eventually found another shop that has two OK medium-age Waves for 3000/month. This shop has a house+storefront booth location on Phetkasem Soi 94 between the train tracks and Soi 88 (easy to find because their house has a very unusual and friendly free drinking water fountain with a water filter outside their house, with a Thai and English sign saying "free water"). The shop has another small rental booth (both taxi and motorbike rental) on Damnoen Kasem, just half a block from the Hua Hin post office, CAT office and Police Station, further away from Phetkasem road next to a "Beautiful Optical" shop (which might be converted to a Top Charoen Optical shop by the time readers read this). Their number is 081 940 0072 / 086 609 5575 / 032 826 123. They were extremely nice and accommodating, offering to replace the rear brake pad on the bike for free when I pointed out that it's a little bit worn down.

All the other shops I found had automatic bikes only.
