also look at getting a K-Bank debit card, 500b per year and a very easy accideny insurance for any hospital in Thailand.

Covers the first 5k baht I think.

was enough for the ambulance, x-ray, medicine and follow ups in Rama 9 hospital for my friend.

Nothing to do with first class insurance though.

BTW, better think about this insurance, 10% of the maximum pay-out insurance premium? And with such a low pay-out, there really is no point at all in this insurance. If those numbers are correct.

Maybe not so sharp after all.

It's also for piece of mind.

If in an accident and suddenly there's Ambulance lads carting you off to a hospital, the last thing you want to be thinking of is are they gonna be ripping you off.

I wouldn't expect a real live life on the edge adventurest like you to want it though. I mean 500b, that's like over ten bottles of Lao Khao right. Never mind Steve, get back to sweeping out the leaves and dirt from the porch. wink.png

Health insurance is sufficient for that, no need at all for accident insurance.

No need for flaming, thanks.

Sounds like you got scammed to me. If you have insurance on your bike (which doesn't even cost 8000 a year) then tell him to claim on that.

Some people think having such a thing is stupid in Thailand. cheesy.gif

Quite a lot of people. I don't really understand the mentality but people say things like "it's not worth insuring" or "it's old anyway" or "I only drive it around the village."

I think it cost me about 350 THB. I don't give a rats about getting my ancient 2 stroke Honda stolen or totaled, could be replaced for 10K, but if I knock someone else over or put a big gouge in the side of a Mercedes then it's covered by the insurance and I won't end up owing serious money. I also won't get into the kind of situation the OP was in where he is basically being extorted at the road side by a tuk tuk and a policeman who I assume to have been in cahoots to rip him off.

For that money you're talking about the compulsory 3rd party insurance, which covers bodily harm to a 3-rd party.

I have the Thai insurance that I pay every year I tax and insure my bike, my own bike owned several years here...

I am fully aware when I left, a contribution to the Tea fund will have taken place out of the Tuk Tuk mans 8k (i also said in my original post a US mate of mine who argued with a Thai guy over a bump and ended up jailed (he had had a drink on him though) and threatened with 20k to get out, through a contact he got this down to 10k after a day and half in the pound) A1 insurance or not, you as a farang are open to the risk of whatever they want to put on you, I choose what I considered the easy option - 8k, probably 3 or 4 went in the tea fund and 5k to Tuk Tuk, so the total cost of a night out, BiG deal!

Case closed for me - Happy to walk away...

I think you best check what your 350 baht bike insurance covers. It for sure does not cover "a big gouge in the side of a Mercedes". It covers very limited hospital expenses, and that's about it.

I'm sure it covers property damage as well, up to a limit most likely. Perhaps I paid more for it. I'll have to double check.

To my knowledge, there is no third party property damage for motorbikes here. That's third party property damage, not third party injury insurance.

Contact the forum sponsor's, AA Insurance, they do 1st Class Insurance for bikes and myself and riding friends have dealt with them in the past.

No 1st Class Vehicle insurance while riding in Thailand = Utter Fool.
