Does Chiang Rai have any modern condos yet?

Something with a separate bedroom, living room and at least a kitchenette . . . a step or two up from those studio affairs found all over Thailand.

Chaing Rai is in the mist of a Condo Boom. Besides the Absolute Group building eight Projects, the Sansari Group from Bangkok is building condo's and of course there is the 20 year old Condotel which has rooms for sale and rent in Chiang Rai City. I visited the Absolute Group and the condo's for sale are not that bad for someone who needs a place in their name and travels a lot. Or wants a vacation retreat to relax in seasonally. The eight Projects are scattered around Chiang Rai making it easy to pick your setting.

Can foreigner buy ?

Yes you can alway buy a Condo-you can just not own land as a foreigner.The only way -right way around that if needed is set up a Usufruct..a 30 year or life time rent agreement wich give you the same right as owner and that-if set up right whit a lawyer no one can tuc/http://www.interactivethailand.com/thailand-usufruct/

Apparently the Sansiri one is going up right next to Big C! I'll be keeping an eye on that one.

I could always stay at the family home with my grandmother whenever I go up but I've always valued my privacy highly so a private bolt-hole is a must.

Allow me to just bump this thread..Do we have anyone who own condo or property here with mortgage loan from bank?
