Going with family to Chiang mai

Featured Replies

Hi,

We are planning to go by car with 2 children 10 and 12 years old from BKK to CM next week.

What are nice family/children activities to do ,and to see over there ?

What is nice fun and interesting to explore ? mountains ?

What is a kids friendly hotel in CM ?

What mall do the children ;like the most in CM ?

What other towns nearby are worth to visit ?

Looking forward to any good tips from the CM residents.

don't stay in a cheap guesthouse. you will get lots of sex tourists and prostitutes there that your kids might not enjoy wondering about. especially when gramps is walking around with his new 'daughter'.

i would not bring children to Chiang Mai this time of year! we have not gone outside in 4 days. have you even read about the air quality? come in December or January.

I would plan to go south or south east.

Isn't the beach the best holiday a kid could wish for?

Seriously march is the worst month of the year in chiangmai.

Chiangmai is all about outdoor activities.....save your trip until after songran.

Yeah the smog ok so we will adjust our travel plans a bit.

So first go to visit the beaches and then afterwards to CM and nearby towns.

Still the question remains is there anything regarding attractions and activities worth doing/.seeing with kids in CM ?

Don't mean at all to join in and gang up on you but as a father of 3 children I also would suggest that if you are still able to change your plans I would avoid CM now. I wouldn't wish the feeling if hearing one's 1 yr old coughing thru the night on anyone. We wait till school gets out and then we get out of town as fast as possible.

Fish tank in AIrport plaza gives 5 minutes fun for them. Followed by McDonald next to them.

Tranquilamente en Chiang Mai y con chicos....

1) The SKHouse1 Hotel on Soi 9 and Muang Luang about 700THB room with 2/3 beds and AC-Cable-Free WIFI and...a nice swimming pool and reading room.. Very good location close to the Tha Pae Gate and Sunday market. Nice place with friendly English speaker desk. No parking.

2)The MIami Hotel with big rooms and a nice parking, cross street by the channel and Miguel's Mexican Cafe. About same price. www.miamihotelchiangmai.com

Attractions:

1) No to miss....Sunday evening market by the Tha Pae Gate and streets around it. Best time 5:30 to 7:30 pm, after that time too many people.......Very big, with many nice temples to visit on the streets, music and dance shows, et.

2) No to miss...Chiang Mai Zoo and the Pandas by Southep Rd, Best time 2:00 to 5pm. After that and on the same road up, to visit the orchid farm and the temple Doi Suthep and enjoy the sunset's views of the city. To avoid the stairs..look at the elevator inside the building by the road.

3} Night Bazaar, every night at the end of Tha Pae Rd in opposite direction, turning right by...Burger King.. Many nice temples on the way. The Jade Buddha, The Teak Wood Buddha, et., and the Sushi Buffet Restaurant by the Meridian

4) The Silver Temple and silvermill close to the Chiang Mai Gate.

5) The Tiger Show in the way to Chiang Dao Cove.

NOT DO DO: Night Safari. Expensive and nothing special.

Shopping Malls and Movies.... Kong Saw Kel Mall, .Airport Central Plaza, and the new big one by the superhighway.

Fish Dinner Buffet...Andaman Sea Restaurant. Ask for directions at the hotel...not easy to found.

Nice restaurants and shopping area ..Niemman Rd

Out the cinty on the mountains..Pai is a small and fun mountain village. In opposite direction, Lampang, Phayao....about 4 hours drive total...or just to Chiang Rai...3 hours drive. Beautiful city!..Or....the circle...Chiang Mai-Lampang-Phayao-Chiang Rai-Chiang Dao- Chiang Mai with many small mountains resorts on the way...including ours in the way to Chiang Kon on the picture.
