Specialised water purification shop in Phetchaboon

Anyone aware of somewhere I can take a water sample for analysis to decide what filters to use for bore hole water.

The sales people in the shop know a little less than SFA as normal.

Thanks.

I believe that if you want to get water samples checked the nearest place is in Phitsanulok.

Also you could ask "Honey" at Nopakun Engineering, they sell the SS filters and she speaks good English

Thanks for the reply.

Where in Phitsanulok would do this?

Where is Nopakun Engineering, in Phetchaboon?

Thanks.

The tests a filtershop will do for you free of charge you can perform yourself by buying test strips which test for calcium. Iron and sediment. If you want a thorough test you better go to a laboratory or hospital, but those tests will cost you 3 - 5000 Baht depending for how many chemicals you want to test.

If a borehole, and you don't want to use it as drinking water, a resin filter for the calcium removal, sediment filter and a manganese greensand filter to remove Iron will be advisable.

If you buy a filter, stay away from Masterpure.

To understand what parameters to analyse, you need to understand the local geology and also sanitary specifications provided by the installer (depth of grout, design of headworks and location to any point sources of pollution like drainage provisions etc.). Remember the pump will be positioned at depth, so will be drawing on any water above. In some states in the US, there are bye laws which specify minimum depth of grout depending on the depth of unconsolidated medium drilled through. As a safe bet best to install a 10um then 5um cartridge type filter in series with transparent housing and to replace when discoloured. Then after pre-filter to install UV lamp with control valve restricting flows up towards the maximum specified by UV. You could purchase a pH meter to check acidity. If water is < pH around 6.5 then you'll need to filter the water through some limestone media to raise the pH, which should be installed on the incoming main to protect all plumbing.

If there's any igneous rocks in the Phetcaboon area probably good to get arsenic and gross alpha and beta analysed too.

I somewhat doubt if you'll need to increase the lime content of your well water.

I live in the Phetchabun area and use their mains water that comes from a borehole. It's absolutely loaded with calcium (and has a sizeable amount of iron) so much so that it furs up the walls of storage tanks, both outside and in the loft. It also furs up the outside surface of the ball valves and in toilet cisterns.

I believe your best option would be for a Thai to have a quiet chat with the the provincial water authority located via the local headman/deputy who looks after the "nam papa" mains water and see what they analyse for and what levels they see. They should know what quality you're likely to get from your borehole and what to test for. They should also know where to get your water tested.
