Abhisit urges the government and PDRC to hold talks

BANGKOK: -- The Democrat party wants the Election Commission and the government to work together to prevent a repeat of the February 2 election violence if a new election is to be staged as ruled by the Constitution Court.

Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, however, declined to confirm whether the party would contest the new election or not. But he urged both the government and the People’s Democratic Reform Committee to hold talks to put an end to their political differences saying that without talks the country cannot move forward.

He noted that the government has persistently insisted that election must go ahead and reforms should be discussed afterward.

The PDRC, meanwhile, has demanded reform to be made before the people go to the polls.

Party spokesman Chavanond Intharakomalasut further said that the Democrat party would join the poll if it feels that the election is fair.

The party boycotted the February 2 election.

They will win it as well and then preside over the reforms themselves.

Go on Dems, contest the election and show all the muppets who say are unelectable that they are indeed just muppets with their heads up their <deleted>.

I am sure you can double the amount of votes the PTP can get, they only made 8 million last time out.. It is yours for the taking.

About time he's stepped up to the plate, I like this guy, and I'd love to see the Democrats take over from the PTP, right now is the time to strike while the Iron is hot and capitalise on the waning support of the PTP I know this is maybe in breach of forum rules here but "Carpe Diem" Abhisit..start making your moves now

What you don't need is a reform panel selected by the PTP, unfortunately even with waning support , the PTP would win and it will be business a usual , riding rough shod over the country and nothing achieved.

Still think the Dems should get a Thai guy to be their leader rather than this English toff.

That Singha bird would be easy to watch

He is ethnically Chinese according to Wiki... not that wiki is always a reliable source of info these days...

So what you're saying basically is that the majority of the Thai voting public would still produce a majority vote for the PTP that would put them back in power?

Isn't that not supposed top\ be what holding elections are all about? He who has the most votes wins?? Seems like that's been the way a vote works since the time of its conception ;)

Surely its the voice of the people that counts??? Or not when it's Thailand??

Isaan is not voting for a party or Democracy but for a corrupt criminal Thaksin.

He is still around and still his puppets are controlling this country.

Throw them out first and then have elections as Sutherp insists.

Your cunning plan is to ban the ruling party so the Democrats will win.

Then Thailand would properly be on a par with North Korea, a shining beacon of democracy.

Great idea thumbsup.gif

This guy can't even control the message coming from his own party, peanut that he is.

He sold his soul after the 2008 coup, and then planned the murder in the streets of his own citizens - too many Thais just flat out hate him

He is better off retiring to focus on his fiction career (i.e. write a follow up to his fanciful garbage filled novel The Simple Truth).

The Democrats will never again crack 10 million votes and Thaksin backed parties will most likely break 16 million in the near future.

Hence the threats to boycott.

As far as Thailand is concerned, the future is pure Red.

Scurry off back to London, loser.

Fancy a little wager on that? Id say the numbers reversed, 8m for the reds and 16m for the Demo's

(in the next free and fair election with both parties contesting)

So are the Shinawatras and a lot of other high up people in Thailand.

Very funny Suthep was right hand man of Abhisit before but now It sounds he cannot control this man anymore ?

That's what happens with democrats....... the leader doesn't exercise total control over it's supporters. Suthep, for better or worse, is his own man.,

Now with quasi democrats there is a leader who dictates everything and his control is absolute.

See the difference. smile.png

You are aware of the electoral history in Thailand for the last 10 years aren't you?

You honestly think the Reds have lost nearly 8 million voters?

You honestly think the actions of the Democrats and the PDRC haven't driven a single voter into Thaksins' arms?

On a scale of probability it's reasonably possible that the Democrats would get more than 10 million but it would have to be outright impossible for the Reds to drop anywhere near 10 million let alone less - there'd be more chance of Thaksin and Suthep popping a handful of viagra each and agreeing to co-star in a gay porno together than you winning this bet.

Last full election the Red vote was 37% greater than the Democrats vote. That is a massive margin in itself, let alone in electoral terms.

Seats before 189 173

Seats won 265 159

Seat change 11px-Increase2.svg.png76 11px-Decrease2.svg.png14

Popular vote 15,744,190 11,433,762

Percentage 48.41% 35.15%

You're better off taking your money to the nearest BTS overpass and donating to the local beggars, I don't really need it.

Yes, I think probable he is the only decent politician Thailand has, that is the problem, the corrupt politicians see him as a threat to their way of life and they have and will continue to use every underhand means to kick him down every time he stands up.

He's not even his own man.

He wanted to contest the last election but got told he couldn't.

He has absolutely zero control over Suthep and the media releases of his own party.

His is, plain and simply, a poster boy.

No authority, no leadership, no hope, no future.

The'd do three times better with the other pommy accented one on their team, young Miss Chitpas.

At least she's relatively easy on the eye

I thought he was in 'boycott' mode. Has the Democratic Party come up with any policies that might appeal to the electorate yet, or do they intend to rely on their ties to special interest groups again?

Decent? Give me a break. He is a Hakka Chinese like Thaksin, but unlike Thaksin, Abhisit and his party cannot come up with any ideas to appeal the large rural Thai electorate.

Kuhn Suthep has repeated time and time again that he will not negotiate with Yingluck or her crooked cronies and he has no reason to change his stance. The solution is simple remove the corrupt regime currently telling everyone they are the 'caretaker government', discuss the reforms and then as Suthep has said, the elections can take place. Seems simple enough to me.

So your solution is to have some unelected parties takeover while they can discuss reforms and " consider " holding an election in their own time?blink.png oh boy with every

incentive to s-t-r-e-t-c-h things out while they are finally in power giggle.gif

So when would they take place…………….. 2025?rolleyes.gif

What right does Suthep have to set conditions for any negotiations with a government that was previously elected in by the electorate? He is one man, therefore he has one vote - end of story.

The solution is simple. Have elections, and arrest anyone that tries to disrupt this process.

It is refreshing to see Abhisit. What he is saying is appropriate. It is sad that his clear intelligence still gets under the skin of some people, who clearly can't stand that. They doubt his ethnicity, doubt his loyally to his country, and cast aspersions on his nationhood. And then they turn around and throw their full support to a man who lives in a Dubai hotel room ! Yes, that's their man - Citizen Kane on steroids. But for those not quite beyond the reach of thought, Abhisit strikes the right tone, and it's refreshing to see someone who can keep his composure and doesn't start all his sentences with " I ". In terms of his suggestion, one's guess is that he is not holding his breath regarding any meeting of the minds between Pheu Thai and the PDRC. But what is happening are a string of constitutional rulings and investigations. As long as they are allowed to go forward, the system works. But Pheu Thai's rejection of the Constitutional Court's ruling today is a very bad turn of events, and does nothing to appease apprehension regarding the UDD, and what they have been signalling in recent weeks.

He is Thai. He was born in Britain because that's where his mother was at the time. It happens all the time for people working for their government overseas. He was educated in Britain as well but that just gives him a wider view of things. he's probably more honest than a lot of the Thai politicians. His problem is that he's surrounded by dishonest Thai born politicians.

Before you start casting doubts over people for being upper class and not born or educated in Thailand remember the king wasn't either and he seems to have turned out a lot better than those that were born and educated here.

Isnt everyone born in tehir birthplace because "that`s where their mother was" laugh.png Would be difficult to be elsewhere when your head is emerging from her delicate parts. Hes a dual citizen btw, which is my point about American Presidents.

He isn`t honest and his term in office was a disaster. He`s just a different side of the same shitty coin that Yingluck, only hes an annoying Eton accent.

As for the King analogy an honest answer would get me potentially imprisoned.
