Lite Beer Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Sakon Nakhorn Village Gripped By Fear Of Temple Curse By Khaosod English. Residents of Na Piang village in Sakon Nakhorn are convinced their community has been haunted by a curse ever since a local temple was demolished. According to a number of villagers, 30 residents have passed away due to various causes since the old temple was demolished in March 2013. Local administrators claimed they meant to construct a new temple over its compound, but budget issues have delayed the construction so far.Villagers claimed that 9 of those fatalities died in March alone, including Mr. Sakhorn Promchantha, a member of the Na Piang Subdistrict Executive Organisation, who passed away on 30th March.A week earlier, villagers said, a monk had also committed suicide in a local temple.Mr. Lorm Yawangphol, who identified himself as an experienced villager necromancer, told our correspondent that the residents were opposed to the demolition of the temple, and the religious sanctuary has been left unconstructed for over a year."The villagers are convinced they have been cursed because of the temple incident," Mr. Lorm explained.According to Mr. Lorm, many local residents have conducted religious ceremonies in their homes to ward off the purported evil spirits, and an effort is underway to gather a communal fund in the village in order to hire experienced monks from other districts for an exorcism ceremony. Some villagers also hung red clothes out in front of their homes in accordance with local beliefs that red shirts will deter any malevolent spirits. For comments, or corrections to this article please contact: [email protected]Source: http://en.khaosod.co...wsid=1396344236 -- Khaosod English 2014-04-01

Popular Post janderton Posted April 1, 2014 Popular Post Posted April 1, 2014 Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful. guess even Seneca would have struggled to put in line this thai bullshit about temple demolished curse 3

WhizBang Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Superstitious nonsense. And... I thought that red shirts were malevolent spirits. 2
BeforeTigers Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Ah yes, poor people funding a community pot to hire a monk to chase the bad spirits of the other monk.Religion is poison.Anyone that tells you you're better off with religion hasn't tried life without it. 2
BillyBobThai Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Wife and I bought a small house here in Hang Dong 2 yr ago that had been discounted from 600,000 baht to 330,000 because it was haunted. We did not know this at the time and have been happy with the house, no ghost yet. 1
plachon Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I once came across a village in Sakon Nakhon where the whole community were considered possessed by spirits, and they moved there to escape prejudice in their own villages and live amongst people who would accept them. Medieval-like belief systems and parallel realities are alive and well in the Isaan boondocks, as evidenced by this and many similar stories. All good news for necromancers, soothsayers, mystic monks and redshirt sellers!
Popular Post rametindallas Posted April 1, 2014 Popular Post Posted April 1, 2014 I'm not sure this has anything to do Buddha's teaching; it's certainly not in any Buddhist writings I have read. Ghosts and evil spirits are not part of Buddhism but it seems the Monks don't condemn those beliefs and, in fact, profit from them. Exorcism ceremony, indeed. More like a nice donation to the Monks. Thailand sure has a way of making me cynical, sometimes. 4

Popular Post JohnThailandJohn Posted April 1, 2014 Popular Post Posted April 1, 2014 In a normal country this would be an April Fools joke... Yes, because other counties don't believe in religion, ghosts or luck and all those people who go to church and temple weekly to prey to the man in the sky controlling all things on earth are not doing so to be rewarded or viewed after death by an angel guarding the gates to place of eternal bliss but rather doing this all as part of an elaborate April Fool prank. Same of course goes for those places like Area 51, Amytiville, Loch Ness, Burmuda Triangle, numerous places where Bigfoot lives and crop circles appear and cattle are mutilated by aliens. But of course the unnamed and non-interviewed claims of the people in this story reflect stupidity unseen anywhere else in the world. 7

JoeThePoster Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I consider all the overpriced carp sold in beer bottles here as malevolent spirits.
chainarong Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Meanwhile the rest of Thailand is cursed by the spirit of Thaskin . Shinawatra. 2
Yunla Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 There is a difference between belief in the spirit world or God/s, and the corrupt practice of these beliefs by individuals or groups. This story sounds like mismanagement of funds, we were going to build a new temple but the money seems to be gone now. But I have no doubts that there are spirits both good and evil in this world, and not just those residing inside living humans either. I also believe that some places are haunted or cursed by tragic events. But I don't know if this story is about that really, it sounds like they are anxious because they were familiar with their temple and put their prayers into it for a long time - then suddenly it is gone and so are the funds to build a new one. This would make people panic from losing something familiar to them, and when people are anxious and panicking they start seeing curses and spirits everywhere. 1

Sadly I agree with you but I just don't like to be so direct because I don't have an issue with folks that believe in such things if it helps them and it harms nobody ... regretfully when it comes to organized religion, it is almost always used to control people by other mortals here on earth. 1

I agree John. When the folks around here have certain issues they take chickens and offer to a ghost that lives in the woods not far from here. They believe this will help their situation. And in a away it does help them mentally. It is important to them so I never make light of it. 2

Pimay1 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I see there are a lot of derogatory and disrespectful comments made toward the people in the OP. Freedom of speech dictates it is anyone's right if they so choose. Maybe the commenters have never lived among these people. Or maybe they have. I have and still do. If you treat them with respect you will find no better friends anywhere in the world. If you are in need they will help you in any way they can because they know what being in need is. Yes they are not privileged to have an education like a lot of us on TVF. And yes many of their ways are strange to us. But on the other hand many of our ways are strange to them. And one last thing. I have never been spoken to by any of my Thai friends in a condescending manner. 1

marko kok prong Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Thailand is a buddist country, however this is only a thin veneer over their pre buddist beliefs, which could loosely be described as animism, belief such as tree spirits and the like, common in many parts of the world, and i never ever mock them for this as for them it is true. 1
