Popular Post slapout
Been around explosives both military grade and commercial grade for a good part of my adult working life. I kinow I am getting up in years, but I cannot remember any explosive ordinence that anyone would attack with a electric, or air driven cutting tool. I have seen the first stage of explosive disassembly by locals in the salvage business, hand tools, non sparking were on display, but I allowed I could contribute nor gain nothing by my presence so I made for a safer area about one kilometer away. I am afraid to ask if the ''boss'' who made the suggestion for this deadly decision was in the list of those killed?

webfact
WWII bomb blast in Thailand kills six, injures 18: officialsBANGKOK, April 2, 2014 (AFP) - At least six people died and 18 others were injured Wednesday when a suspected World War II bomb exploded at a scrap metal warehouse in Bangkok as workers tried to cut it open, officials said. The shell was found at a construction site by builders who then sold it to a suburban scrap metal merchant believing the bomb had been defused."The workers at the warehouse thought the bomb was no longer active so they used a metal cutter to cut into it causing the explosion," said local police commander Virasak Foythong, adding the ordnance was probably left over from the war era."Six are confirmed dead and 18 injured," the city's Erawan emergency centre said, adding five were killed at the scene.Television footage showed debris and twisted metal at the destroyed workshop as thick smoke choked the sky, while local reports said dozens of nearby homes were also damaged by the blast. The allies conducted bombing raids on the Thai capital in retaliation for the kingdom joining the Japanese war effort in Southeast Asia. -- (c) Copyright AFP 2014-04-

webfact
Antique Shop's 'WWII Bomb' Explosion Kills 7By Khaosod English BANGKOK: -- A 230 kg explosive device went off inside an antique shop in Bangkok suburb after its staff reportedly attempted to dismantle it, killing at least 7 people.Initially reported by a number of media as gas leak explosion, the blast nearly leveled the antique shop in Soi Lat Prakao 72 and damaged at least 20 houses in the vicinity. Large plume of smoke could be seen across the northern suburb of Bangkok.Witnesses later told police that the explosion was in fact caused by a large "old-looking" explosive device, which was found by a group of construction workers in a construction site near the antique shop. After unearthing the device, the workers reportedly took it to the antique shop where its staff purchased it at an unspecified price and proceeded to dismantle the bomb by gas-fueled cutters, hoping to sell the metal scraps to local vendors. However, witnesses said, the spark caused the bomb to explode, killing and injuring many individuals.According to Erawan Rescue Centre, 7 people have been killed and at least 40 people injured by the blast.Initial reports by the police indicated that the 230 kg. bomb is likely dropped by the Allied force in an air raid on Bangkok during the Second World War, in which the Thai government sided with the Japanese Empire.Source: http://en.khaosod.co.th/detail.php?newsid=1396426656 -- Khaosod English 2014-04-

hyperdimension
What did the drum look like? If they knew that it was a bomb then they should have at least obtained advice from a bomb / explosive expert before doing anything to it, preferably someone from military bomb squad staff and not the UDD terrorists. Those bombs who make a big crater are usually dropped by an American aircraft. And the explosion creates such a "crater." ( I said) Which sin't the same as cutting it open, I'd assume.( I think) Hey you foreigners, are you talking to me? You play with fire, you get burned is a lesson for kids. Gives the warehouse the right name. Or maybe crap metal? Or death metal? Rest in peace, as we all know that any compensation won't be paid by..... I'd know what sort of dangerous thing that was. But..................... Please see the "specialists" in Munich....called a "successful detonation." The one in Bangkok was not successful at all. http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/08/29/they-called-this-a-successful-detonation-550-pound-wwii-bomb-explodes-in-central-munich/ http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/world/world-war-ii-bomb-damages-munich/story-fnd134gw-1226461206611 Glad that they don't have nuclear weapons..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_o65B1JTiw Edited April 2, 2014 by sirchai
