Thaksin always modelled Thailand's ideal democracy on Singapore and Malaysia where one family or party rule indefinitely suing the opposition into bankruptcy or jailing opposition leaders for sodomy, so that you deconstruct a pluralist democracy. You get things done but you walk all over political freedoms. Singapore is not a very free country, Malaysia is a joke. Of course, Singapore is one of the least corrupt countries in the world so they can get away with it. But they have corrupted power. That's the issue here in Thailand.

Singapore is one of most power corrupted red dot in the world. No such human right. Jailing opposition leaders make them bankruptcy , many opposition politicians are still not allow to return Singapore and so on. In the 1960s-1970s there was a Chinese university. During those days most of the opposition leaders were Chinese educated and they were talent too. So what the LKY did was, eliminated that Chinese university and replace by Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Since then Singapore lost one of the famous Chinese university. A group of foreigner are working for Singapore since 1949 but their children are not allow to work there anymore although they born and educated from Singapore. That group call Gurkha Police in Singapore. There is so ridiculous law, those Gurkha Police are not allow to marriage Singaporean or any foreigner. So this is the true Singapore Design by Lee family.

Thailand is the strongest self-identified nation in South Asia, thanks to the legacy of their revered kings. And that is, precisely, what the greedy tycoons like Thaksin and his associates want to destroy in order to convert it in a just another business franchise.

Natural in the sense that you have one race, one religion, one language, one history over quite a long period of time.

Very insensitive to the Malay speaking Muslims in the South whose sultanate was only annexed in to Thailand at the beginning of the last century.

Plus some other minorities who speak Lao, Mon, Khmer or whatelse there is as first language at home. The history though they may share even though some of it is a real violent one.

Spot on. I worked in Singapore for two years. My colleagues warned me never to say anything against the government in public as the person standing beside me could be one of the secret police and I woud be arrested. Lee has no business giving advice to anyone unless they want to set up a family dynasty like the one that exists in Singapore which is almost unbelievable. There appears to be no one who can step up and solve the political stalemate in Thailand...the Thai military...so far...unwilling to intervene...may have to change their position...and restore some semblance of order in the Land of Turmoil...
