On February 27, Police Lieutenant Muhammad Azan Jamae, aged 58, Deputy Inspector of the 6th Investigation Division focused on Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression, was ambushed outside his home in Sai Buri district. Eyewitnesses reported that several attackers on two motorcycles opened fire on the officer near house number 80, hitting him critically. Neighbors quickly rushed him to Yupracha Sai Buri Hospital, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead on arrival. The police have launched a thorough investigation, collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses. The attackers fled swiftly, leaving no immediate clues. Preliminary reports suggest the killing might be linked to ongoing insurgency-driven violence against government officials in Thailand’s southern provinces, an area long troubled by separatist unrest. An unnamed officer suggested the murder may have been a calculated move intended to send a message to authorities. "We are pursuing every lead to bring the perpetrators to justice," he stated. The shocking assassination of Pol. Lt. Muhammad Azan has left the local community reeling with fear and outrage. "He was a respected officer and a devout Muslim. No one deserves to be killed like this," said a local resident. In response, authorities have bolstered security across Sai Buri district and set up roadblocks to catch the culprits. Forensic teams are analyzing bullet casings found at the crime scene, hoping to trace the firearms used. Investigators are exploring various motives, including the possibility that his role in environmental crime suppression made him a target.
