I go back to Aus for a month next week. On my return here, I want to bubble wrap my desktop PC and screen and pack into a suitcase (should be >20kg) Is this allowed or am I going to have problems? I bring my laptop back and forth all the time as carry on baggage but now I want both computers here as with any luck wont be back in Aus for yonks (ages). Any one here know what the go is?

Thanks in advance

It is a business machine on which you track your personal finances. Throw some stickers on it....(hopefully not new and not in the box)

Personal use.

You can always say you brought it to from your home country to thailand and now are bringing it back

Dummy up some receipts from Australia (second hand computer shop)

I brought my tower over by itself them bought a new screen, printer, keyboard and mouse plus speakers and of course a thai power cord. No problems doing it if you even get stopped as you can see its not new and as above you tell them itshas all your work/personal data on it but usually you just go straight through at the airport anyway, have never been stopped even when I was bringing full aged sirloins back with me.

You are better with just the tower as you will need to replace the cords anyway and they arent expensive items.

You better wrap your screen very good seeing how airline handle luggages.

Slippery lobster, seajae and ignis, thanks a lot guys. Sounds like I should have no worries. Thought about buying a new one here but they are as expensive if not more so than Aus.

I've done this before, just don't start it up right after you unpack it. The temperature in the cargo hold is very cold so you'll get condensation all over your computer.

I would advise taking the motherboard and hard drives out and bringing just those as a good case and power supply can be bought here cheaply and they are very heavy.

Yeah that, take the HDDs out and wrap 'em in bubble wrap, I wouldn't worry about about the motherboard but if you have a large CPU heatsink you might want to take this off too, if it comes loose during turbulence you can say good bye to much of your PC.

Ditto on this. It's what I did and no problems re building it here for peanuts. I like a big case because no one wants to steal it.biggrin.png I packed it in with my clothes and no one even looked at it.

Case and power supply are heavy and excess baggage is expensive so strip down and rebuild as just said.

Get some antistatic bags for it all, dont let a woolen jumper rub over it!

Don't know what the Oz voltage and Hz are, but make sure the tiny switch on the power supply is set for 220V when you plug it in here.

Ask me how I now know to do that, coming from a 110 V country.
