Thai-born British citizen accused of lese majeste by her own parents

I wouldn't be amazed if this naive, spoiled little pottymouth gets extradited to Thailand and made an example of by receiving the maximum sentence without possibilty for pardon... She certainly would deserve it, because the vulgar images and words she used were far over the top and had absolutely nothing to do with freedom of speech, but were meant to have a maximum insulting effect. Even the sluttiest Soi Cowboy Mama San would not use such phrases in day to day life. What a stupid low-life scum brat... I feel sorry for her parents.

she can do what she wants, say what she wants, express any opinion she wants, she is a british citizen living in Britain with all those full rights....and I don't think there is a chance in hell that she will get extradited, NO ONE CARES, NOBODY AT ALL GIVES A FLYING <deleted> what comes out of her mouth EXCEPT royalist brainwashed Thais...THE REST OF THE WORLD HAS A LOT MORE TO WORRY ABOUT......extradition takes resources and time, you really think Britain is going to give this situation resources and time??? hhhhm let me think here, what are the pressing issues in the world right now and where does an offender of lese Majeste fall into the mix??/

She can say what she wants, as can you.

You should be grateful for that.

For various reasons, many here can not say what they think.

I would like you to explain why she deserves to be punished in such a draxonian manner . so far, I am not even sure anyone has been injured by her words.

Is this stupid thread still running! She can say what she wants about things here (in Thailand) but should really <deleted> (I can't believe TV has that acronym on auto delete!!!!) if she's got something to say about the English queen.

Actually if she's got something to say about the English Queen she should say it loud and clear, cuz most Brits are adults and can take it (and perhaps might even agree), without throwing a strop or thinking she should be tossed in jail for a decade or more.

One point which needs to be made in respect of free speech in a democracy is that tolerance needs to be extended ( perhaps particularly) even to disagreeable people with disagreeable views. If what they say is defamatory, racist or damaging there are legal remedies available. But to be offended or even deeply offended is not sufficient reason to prevent freedom of speech.

Well just to make things a little more interesting it seems there are now posts on Facebook insulting the British queen. Some nice colourful language because she won't send this woman back to Thailand. Then going on about how if she refuses to send her back to Thailand the Thai army will invade England . Oh my god , made my day, good job I finished my coffee as it would have gone all over the keyboard.

Can just imagine some of my UK army friends knocking the ... out of the Thai army.

Now I suppose someone should go to this persons house with a spray can and install the union jack on their door? Any takers.?

Irony, irony, irony.

Looks like the post has now been removed with an apology!

I´d love to see that cheesy.gif Some reality check may help these hotheads to calm down........anyway

What does this tell us when now these people copy the very same childish behaviour they allegedly despise so much?? coffee1.gif

from the live monday thread

"BANGKOK, June 23 -- Thailand's police are cooperating with the Foreign Affairs Ministry in requesting the British government to extradite a Thai national lese majeste suspect to face trial in Thailand, deputy national police chief Pol Gen Aek Angsananont said today.

Gen Ake and other concerned officials met to discuss progress on bringing Chatwadee Amornpat, aka Rose, to stand trial in Thailand on charges of lese majeste.

The Criminal Court on June 16 issued a warrant for her arrest.

Police are cooperating with the Foreign Affairs Ministry in revoking her Thai passport after learning that she has applied for British citizenship, Gen Ake said.

Pol Maj Gen Pisit Pao-in, an advisor to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, said that the British government must extradite Ms Chatwadee to Thailand if her passport is revoked.

However, if she is allowed to change her citizenship, then it is the duty of the Office of the Attorney General to request the British government to extradite her, said Gen Pisit.

Meanwhile, regarding significant cases such as using military weapons against anti-government protesters from late last year until last month, causing many casualties, Gen Ake said progress has been made.

Warrants for the arrest of a bomber who attacked protesters loyal to the People’s Democratic Reform Committee at Bangkok’s Victory Monument and for those who attacked Ramkhamhaeng University students have been issued. (MCOT online news)"

she got british citizenship already.if her thai passport is revoked, why should she be deported?

and now thai royalists are insulting the queen here some of the insults

As mentioned before, this isn't the rest of the world telling Thailand how they should conduct their business within their borders...no this is actually Thailand trying to impose their laws on a woman who is no longer a Thai citizen and is making these statements from a foreign country of which she is a citizen

She is still a Thai citizen. What makes you think she is not. Now a passport can be revoked without revoking citizenship.

It has said she applied. If she was granted it she is. British citizenship does not exempt you from Thai laws. Read your Thai history.

She will certainly be arrested when she comes back. She may also be extradited from other countries though it is unlikey Britain would allow it. If she is not given British Citizenship and has her passport revoked it is up to Britain whether to allow her to stay.

Well she can always bunk down in the Ecuadorean Embassy with the charming Julian Assange. He's just celebrated his 2nd anniversary holed up. Another couple of months and he'll pass Anne Frank.

She is definitely a British citizen, the Thai TV news are misinforming. This is her latest facebook update:

"To All my friends who love democracy around the world:

I'm on holiday now in Southern France. It's such a beautiful part of France. I feel like I'm in fairytale world! I'll be going to Norway next week and will meet up with some Red Shirts there. My British passport sailed through like a flying colors...

I miss & love y'all my FC"

She also attached pictures of herself in France

What a stupid comment by this lady. In her situation she should shut up instead of rubbing it in. But then again she is a red shirt. Don't see her coming back to Thailand anytime soon. thumbsup.gif

However, Rose isn't out of the woods just yet, the Thai police and foreign ministry are joining forces to arrest Rose.

"Sek Wannamethee, Director-General of the Department of Information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told journalists on Thursday that the foreign ministry, the Royal Thai Police and the Office of the Attorney General are currently working on legal provisions to bring Chatwadee Amornpat, aka Rose, back from London to face lese majeste charges in Thailand for insulting the Thai royal family on Facebook and YouTube.

Sek Wannamethi said Thailand has an extradition treaty with the United Kingdom, but Thai officials need to look into the details of the treaty, as Ms Amornpat has British nationality, before any further action is taken.
The Royal Thai Embassy in London, in the meantime, will cooperate by verifying the addresses of Ms Amornpat and other lese majeste offenders in the United Kingdom."

Sounds like they're making this one of their top priorities.

They can make it whatever priority they wish, not even a remote chance of this happening.

Perhaps not officially, but remember that the UK has a lot of vested interests in Thailand, including commercial and as allied countries.

I am not suggesting anything illegal here, but underhanded agreements can be made behind closed doors between Governments and this woman could receive an unofficial warning to either take a schtum powder or face the consequences, as has happened in the past to those considered as enemies of a State or bad for International relations between countries and in risk of creating such International incidents. Also considering that if in the events of problems with China or North Korea in the future, Thailand is the allies friendly base in South East Asia and there is no way the allies would want to jeopardise that, something similar to Israel being the allies unofficial base in the middle east. Then of course there are the fanatics and the loons who may have other ideas on how to shut this woman up.

In my opinion, this woman is in a no win situation whatever her intentions and has made her point. She would be wise to cease and desist her public activities now, falling out of the limelight while the going is good.

The British Ambassador has made it clear that LM is not an offence in the UK, and thus extradition is impossible. The Thai officials concerned know this but will continue with their efforts to show they are loyal servants of the Junta.

The whole affair is utterly trivial and unimportant, and no great significance is really given to it by either side (despite the IQ lowering theatrics in Bangkok).

The Junta is desperate for international understanding and it is inconceivable it would jeapardise relations with a country like the UK (and by extension the EU) over the antics of a (unbalanced?) woman.

Your comments on her "no win situation" and advice she 'cease and desist" are nonsense .She can continue with her tomfoolery as long as she likes. Those who physically threaten or intimidate her will be punished under UK law.

A criminal swap (whatever you call it) could be an opportunity. There are many British criminals and pedophiles hiding in Thailand. The UK would love to have them back into their country.

Even if she didn't have citizenship, which seems she does, hardly likely the UK will hand her over to Thai authorities over LM

laws. Just as a point of reference, took Thailand years to get Rakesh Saxesna extradited (from Canada), and he did so much

more harm than her.

Any high school lawyer would get her out of any extradition request, because aside from the fact that she is British and hasn't broken any laws, they would claim she can't recieve a fair trial because Lese Majeste rarely if ever receives a not guilty verdict and that the judges are not impartial.
