BANGKOK: -- Sixty-four political parties have accepted an invitation by the Election Commission (EC) to a meeting Tuesday to discuss preparations for the next general election.

EC secretary general Puchong Nutrawong said three parties – Kasikorn Thai, Pheu Fah Din and Thai Maharat Pattana – refused to attend the forum.

Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva will be accompanied by his deputy Chamni Sakdiset while ruling Pheu Thai leader Charupong Ruangsuwan informed the EC that he would join the meeting with Pokin Polakul, the party’s senior advisor on strategy.

Mr Puchong said the EC would discuss timing for the next nationwide polls which could be held in 60 days, 90 days or 120 days after the promulgation of the election decree.

Conclusions from the meeting will be raised with the state security sector and the caretaker government, he said.

Meanwhile, executives of 30 small political parties met at a Bangkok hotel yesterday and agreed that the general election should be held on June 15.

They proposed three possible candidates as Thailand’s next prime minister – Phongthep Thepkanjana, Supachai Panitchpakdi and Dr Boon Vanasin – on the condition that they must be first elected to the House of Representatives.

The group of 30 small political parties will all join the EC-initiated meeting on Tuesday.

Well, the two big parties agreed to send representatives, that is certainly a positive thing. Let's hope, they come up with a win-win outcome.

Somehow, it is difficult for me to expect a lot of synergy as the outcome of the meeting, but hopefully we will all be pleasantly surprised wai2.gif

Phongthep Thepkanjana is one of Thaksin's trusted inner circle. As such, it's hard to imagine it being taken seriously as a solution to anything other than exactly the same situation.

This country needs something new. It´s no solution when the so called "democrats" will rule again. They are too much connected with the military, the old family clans and national conservatives.

Thailand needs a new progressive/labour party who really cares about the poor and the workers. To much power is in hands of a few people.

Democrats are not the solution. They are part of the problem. (I dont say the Shinawatra Clan is better)

Dems won't run without comprehensive election reforms and PTP will never agree to relinquish their policy of

vote buying,

village chief buying,

populist policies at the risk of the economy to buy votes

and their murder and intimidation strategies to prevent Dem canvassing in the north and northeast where the bulk of the voters are.

So it will be a stalemate.

Thaksin can not win without his 4 point strategy.

The Dems cannot even win when using the same strategy because people hate them so muchcheesy.gif thats how incompetent they are!

So they have tried the trusted method of vote buying which they were useless at, and have now moved onto their next strategy of changing the voting rules/allocation anything they bloody can so they can get a few votes!!

So you are saying Thaksin is the greatest idiot ever, because he spend billions for all the buying but in fact he would win without it?
