I'll need to get some rabies jabs on Koh Tao. I get them free of charge in government hospitals due to my social security payments. Is there a government clinic on Koh Tao? Is the Koh Tao Public Health Center one?

I am surprised no one has said any thing here....

I have not been to KT in a while now, but remember there are some Nursing First Aid places dotted around either Maehaad or Saree beach areas ....

Perhaps that would be a good start.... and ask... wink.png

and take the document from your accountant that shows your deductions for social security (unless you have one of the old cards)

or

I have my social security payment deducted direct from my bank account every month. If you are the same - just take the receipt along.

I have the card but I believe as my designated hospital is in Bangkok I would have to pay the clinic, get a receipt and then apply to get my money back. Anyone know how much rabies shots cost in KohTao?

Mister, who gives a darn how much it costs.

Get your butt in there and start the vaccinations.

Watch a YouTube video on people that waited too long--its one of the most gruesome deaths you can imagine.

You will need:

--Tetanus

--Vaccination

--immunoglobulin (if you have not been previously vaccinated).

Can you describe how you were exposed?

Yes I agree, and I find it amazing, nothing checked out with clinics as suggested..... Koh Toa is not that big.... how long would that take to seek out the clinics and ask ?

Waiting here to get a specific answer here, to costs etc ......blink.png .... If nothing there on KT ..... then hop on Lomprayah ferry and get to the hospital in Nathon or even on KP.... before and if anything sets in...

(I am really not sure that Rabies is a big issue on the islands, but better to be safe than sorry .... ) Also I vaguely remember, that rabies requires several shots over a few weeks...(???)

Calm down people. I've already had the first two shots but I'll be in Koh Tao when the next 3 are due. If I can avoid unnecessary costs that would of course be preferable.

Why not speak to the duty medic @ the SSS clinic, assuming that it's still there?

(Feeder clinic for Samui Recompression Chamber).

Somewhere on Koh Tao would be preferable or I'll have to go from Tao to Samui and back 3 times.

Their feeder clinic would be about as much use as a wing-mirror on a submarine if they had placed it anywhere else:)

I think the question to begin with was not very clear....

What I would do is ask at the local hospital here and see if they can send what you need to a Clinic on KT.... There are staff members (nurses or the Prescription counter) in Nathon who do speak fairly good English and should be able to answer that for you .... wink.png

I know people in Maenam here, that go daily to the Maenam clinic to get their medications, which are prescribed by Nathon Hospital....( I think so they don't forget to take them)

Perhaps they would have the same sort of thing on KT? I some how cannot imagine there would not be somewhere to do this there...

Good luck with it all...!!! wink.png

Well, Eddie, excuse us for getting worked up by your lame a$$ post that failed to provide any details beyond the fact you were exposed to rabies and were a real tightwad.

The cost of a jab is 450 Baht. Are you really that strapped? And you dislike ferry travel so much that you can't stand even going to samui? For the love of god, why do you live on an island if water travel offends you so?

Lastly, you are receiving a full five shots so that indicates you cannot observe the animal that bit you? If it were a dog and it were still alive at Day 12 without displaying symptoms then you don't have to bother with the last two jabs.

I think the OP was extremely clear. Other people have been going off on a tangent.

I've heard of people paying 10,000 baht for the full course. Where can you get one shot for 450 (on Koh Tao)?
