Depends on whether you have a valid International Driving Licence or permit with you. If not, then you will probably be asked to take the whole test.

If however you have a valid driving licence from your home country AND an IDP, you will probably only have to do the colour blind, depth perception, and reaction tests.

Please bear in mind you will also need a proof of residence paper from Immigration plus usual documents...passport, photos etc.

There are lots of posts about this on TV and in Samui section.

Spot on!

Got my first Thai MDL in 2006 in Chiang Mai after doing the Tests for Colour Blindness and Depth Perception. Also had to do one on Reaction Time. This involved a battery operated "Traffic Light" connected to an Accelerator and a Brake. Object was to see how quickly I could stop the "vehicle" when the RED Light came on.

Got a Licence for 1 year but went abroad for a couple of years. When I came back, my wife and I went in with the OLD Thai Licence, my current Australian one, Passport etc., Had to do the Colour Blindness test ONLY and then got a new Thai MDL good for 5 Years.

With all the laws being applied re tourist visas, do you need a Thai licence? International one will be sufficient.

If you wish to pursue the licence here, you will need to get a letter of residence from immigration.

Have a look here:

Still not sure if it applies to your specific question if you can get one on a tourist visa. Perhaps give them a phone call.
