Got my new digital Phuket Cable tv box, looked easy enough to install, simple plug in color coded Jack plugs etc, turned on and every bit of metal on the tv and the digital box was live, got a big shock up my right arm, not touching that again, anyone know why it all went live? Gf is supposed to be calling them to come to install as I won't go near it!

No box has 2 pin plug, no idea about being grounded correctly

Maybe a blessing in disguise, I had the entire house rewired after dropping my iPhone due to a shock. No more problems now. Think about what might happen to you in the shower. (no not that, something lethal).

No problems with anything else in the house, someone coming tomorrow to fit hope it's not a shocking experience for them!!

Try plugging it in the other way round, it might help. Get one of the screw drivers with a light (ta maeo) to check if the case is wired hot or not. Check both the TV and the box. But a real help is the hint of "cooked".

Typo corrected.

Got myself a screw driver that can test for electric current, connected it all up again and no shock, still can't get it working though, I'm useless with things like this!!

You are lucky you are still alive. (no pun intended)

You could have easily been on the front page of today's Phuket Gazette.

Most of the electrical work here does not have a "ground" (the third pin LIK is talking about) - so, the user can become the "ground."

I agree I hate anything electrical, let the guy sort it!

Horrible!

This box has a separate power supply and should only get a low voltage at its input.

Take this power supply ("transformer") to a (the) shop and ask them to test.

But can still be a grounding problem with the device (TV?) that is connected to the box.

Not sure whether it is really "full" live (I don't know the correct term in English for the phenomenon).

I sometimes have this here, touching the on/off button of my LC display and feel a strong "prickle".

A full live wire will lead to a harsh constriction of your arm/muscles, almost throwing you down/leading to uncontrollable convulsions.

Had this three times, all survived fortunately.

Was it that hard?

The unit is likely toast at this point and will have to be replaced as it appears the built in transformer was not doing its job and allowed full AC electric to flow to control box. Don't even try to get it working.

As for the extension strip be aware that only supplies two pin electric - the 3rd ground pin on sockets is not connected to anything so do not use it for any equipment that has a three pin plug on it.

As a add on for info.

I watched a news item on UK last week about using cheap chargers for you phone, laptop etc dont do it, They opened one up to show you the guts very poor quality i had some myself i bined them and bought better ones from the device manufacture laptops can be over charged and burst into flames and i mean a big fire.

We all put something on charge and dont check on it its maybe in the bedroom and you are elsewere.

Scary

maybe when you asked for live tv they misunderstood you, 'my cow jai'

What did the problem turn out to be in the end ?

I have no idea the cable guys came and within 5 mins it was all working perfectly! I used this cheap box first so maybe this was the problem, the digital box is now connected to the 3 plug box already being used by the video and tv. post-204019-14007561123466_thumb.jpg

Good one - might pay to get the house electrics checked one day . Dont like the idea of two pin plugs.

Where did you get your cable TV package from? 350 baht a month ,I could do with that !

Those cheap power strips are dangerous. I've have them have burn marks around the outlets. I buy better ones from the hardware store now.
