Good night tourism.

I mean how does that even work now?

Many tourists enjoy the night life of Thailand. This is a nail in the coffin for tourism if they are going to be confined to thier hotel rooms after saving all year for a holiday.

My understanding is that tourism only represents about 12% of GDP. I doubt they are not too concerned about tourists as a whole. Clearly, Pattaya etc. will be

Well at least that makes sense. I'm not so sure about the TV stations though. I wouldn't think Thai soaps could upset a coup.

no tv no internet i payed for it iii wanttt coimpensation thai style 1,000,000bht

Martial law means no compensation for any actions the army takes.

Imagine stripping 12% of GDP out of any economy.

How would you like 12% pay cut?

Guy's thanks for the reply and I've got the answer to my question! there are some exceptions, if you're heating to work or from work, hospital visit, deliveries of perishable goods (fresh Food)or in my case with permission by the nearest Army/Military Base!

Oh I agree. But, in the great scheme of things.............

Just lost Asia News Channel, Aust Network, Fox News and BBC is this just my local cable provider (go down a couple of times a week) or have others lost these stations?

Posted

Am I missing something here?

All of a sudden this is a coup as well as martial law?

Can anyone enlighten me please?

Oh well, being long in the tooth and living in Thailand I suppose I should have expected this.

No big deal for me living out in the sticks.

Business as usual.

I am very rarely out after 10 o' clock and don't get up before 6 am.

Those of us still on-line. Have you noticed this thread has gone very quiet. Is it people have run out of comments or is the internet being closed in stages? Just wondered

You can say that again.

I held a combat rifle for 22 years. During that time I never liked liked civilians much.

Yeah, we all hated those "long haired, pot-smoking, tree-hugging hippy civvies" as well (until we retired, let our hair grow and realized trees weren't that bad after all) ! What really sucked was retiring to take a job as a civvy in Afghanistan and less than a week after turning in my uniform having some wet-behind-the-ears punk with less than a year in give me grief because I was a civvy !

All going well, a month from now most (non-Thai) people won't even remember there was a coup, especially if the curfew is lifted soon (or not applied to the "tourist" areas). It'll be business as per normal within a very short time and a whole lot of panic over nothing (fingers crossed), just like last time.

My point was for people that have no military experience. There is a fine line between putting your arms around an armed squaddie for a photo opportunity and having your features rearranged by a rifle butting. Frightened and inexperienced young conscripts with a loaded weapon are the ones most likely to lose their nerve and let a few rounds go off.

Stupid is as stupid does. They well may be a bunch of Pvt Gumps, so don't be stupid.

Yes. And Pvt Gump became really rich and famous and had an interesting life.

A quote from "game of thrones"

In time of war, majority ot the areas in any country seem peaceful...

Stop the drama on TV lol....

Bangkok is curfew to avoid any bombs or gunners... This aint bad news...

Might save some children....

well what about all these thai people selling their staff during the night for those who sell at the market during the day?

facepalm.gif

"....these thai people selling their staff during the night ....."

The only people selling their staff will be collecting bar fines well before the 10pm curfew. And many of the people selling at night will now be selling during the day. Just for a short time, while these difficulties prevail that is..

Business as usual

was that deliberate?

Martial law & a coup. I suppose that means plenty of Govts will be advising against all travel to LOS and any tourists who decide to come here anyway will probably not have any cover under any travel insurance they took out. Something to bear in mind if you were/are thinking of travelling to LOS.

Just thinking out loud. I've not read through every post on this topic so if someone has already mentioned this sorry for repeating the same thing.

All those who were celebrating Martial Law on another thread, and the down fall of the Shinawatras - welcome to the real world. And next time, be a little more careful what it is you wish for!

Still celebrating Martial law and the down fall of the Shinawatras...curfew will soon pass...as Martial law...to get rid of the Shinawatras family...worth every bit of it...

You don't think they will get elected again once the military allows a new election?

No...I really do not...most of the country has had its fill of the Shinawatras family and cronies corrupt politics...

thinking on the macro level you made a very sharp post. I suspect .mil had intel that some sh*t was going to be going down and thought best to preempt it. whereas a coop is bad for business, and .mil people owns lots of businesses, better to suspend business than to risk civil war sort of stuff. IMO.

I skyped my kid in Bkk Samut Prakan, said he was sent home from work early. Something about some gunfire in Bkk but sometimes he's not so accurate on info.

And what about late international flights?

Taxis to and from the airport will be fine.

Yes, sure, you think the curfew doesn't apply to taxis?

The army have said that taxi's are allowed bring tourists to the airport.

There's a curfew, why would there be any taxis even if they were exempt, there would be no passengers to use them.
