Improvised explosives found at the Jomtien area in Pattaya

CHONBURI, 5 June 2014 (NNT) - Police have discovered a number of improvised explosives placed inside a cardboard box, which was then concealed beneath a thick area of grass at a section of Jomtien Road in Pattaya.

Police Colonel Supatee Boonkrong, the superintendent of the Chonburi Provincial Police, said that the explosives were found under a dense grass bush near the Jomtien Road.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were immediately called in to inspect the scene and made a safe recovery of the bombs.

Five bombs were found inside the box, including an M-34 smoke bomb, an M-26 grenade, two MK2 grenades, and an M-67 grenade. Even though the bombs were quite old, they were still functional to cause destruction.

Mr. Supatee reasoned that the perpetrator got rid of these explosives to escape detection from the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), who have been determined to crackdown on the possession of war weapons.

Will someone PLEASE explain to ALL Thai reporters that GRENADES, no matter what type, are NOT BOMBS! They can be used to MAKE bombs if so desired, but in and of themselves, they are not bombs!

Mills Bombs

Grenades (small bombs thrown by hand) were first used in the 16th century. In the opening months of the First World War the British Army used Grenade No 1. This was a cast-iron canister on an 18 inch stick. Soldiers soon discovered that they were dangerous to use when in a front-line trench. There were several cases of soldiers being killed when the grenade hit the front of the trench.

In 1915, a grenade developed by William Mills, a Birmingham engineer, began to be used by British troops. The bomb had a central spring-loaded firing-pin and and spring-loaded lever locked by a pin. Once the Mills Bomb was in the air, the lever flew up and released the striker, which ignited a four-second time fuse, allowing the thrower to take cover before it exploded. When the grenade went off the cast-iron casing shattered producing a shower of metal fragments.

The grenade developed by Mills soon became very popular with British soldiers and remained in short supply until the end of 1916. By the time the Armistice was signed, more than 33 million Mills Bombs had been issued to soldiers in the British Army.

First explain it to the folks at Cambridge who publish what's usually considered an authoritative English language dictionary.

English definition of “hand grenade”
hand grenadenoun [C]
a small bomb consisting of explosive material in a metal or plastic containerthat can be thrown easily
(Definition of hand grenade noun from the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary & Thesaurus © Cambridge University Press)

Focus on the pronunciation of hand grenade

So a bullet would also be classed as a bomb ? .............

So now with all the other stuff I have to avoid in Pattaya, now I have to start

scanning for roadside IEDs ( Improvised Explosive Devices) ?

I love this place !!!!!!!!!
