As many as 10 militants, carrying automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades, fought their way into the airport’s old terminal, forcing all flights to be suspended.

Worst.Security.Ever.

Swampy is no better.... A week after the coup, it was supposed to be tightly guarded and required documents for pick up and drop offs... Never saw a single checkpoint or soldier anywhere from Korat all the way to the airport, and drove straight to drop off point and drove home again not a single soldier was seen anywhere.

It's not the "toys" you carry...it's more to do with the level of training/experience of those carrying them and more importantly their willingness/intent to use them to best effect. A determined person with a broken beer bottle can do a lot of harm, see how Bill Speakman won his VC in Korea in 1951.
